Who's going to surprise this year?

I think the surprise will be how the fans react to a poor season. I don't see this team competing for the playoffs. If Thompson or Dahlin go down for any length of time it's an 85 point season.

I mean, the issue is most of the core players have had breakout years already.
Maybe I'm missing a nuance here, but I couldn't disagree more.

Byram, Power, Samuelsson, Levi, Benson and Quinn have yet to break out.

Cozens and Thompson fell off dramatically last year and have lots of room to bounce back

Dahlin and Tuch are both capable of more than they showed last year.

Peterka has played just 2 seasons and is line to be elevated to the top line and first PP unit for the first time.

I think the only core player Id take the under on for this season is UPL.

Idk who can surprise in a good way, maybe Mcleod outperforms, or Greenway? Everyone else at F I expect improvements. Unless Krebs forces his way and breaks out, Joker seems like the best bet. That or an Injury and Kulich/Ryan Johnson balls out.

I'll say McLeod surprises. He'll become an important defensive piece that provides some depth scoring like another center the Sabres traded for from the Oilers in the past.
