the wait is over. Our predictions that the Islanders will be the team that will draft 1st came true. Right
hfboards.com who's going to be the 1st pick in 2026?

James Hagens

Michael Misa

Matthew Schaefar

Porter Martone

I personally though James Hagens looked really good at the WJC. he looked fantastic. But of course, who am I. just a tv scout.

Assuming 2025 is what you mean by choices, because 26 is McKenna, 25 will likely be Schaefer

So, it's not top prospect but who goes first? A true prediction not an opinion?

Who does the NYI need? A top center or a dman who might be a better prospect?

I think it's a lot easier for a front office to talk themselves into using the first overall pick to draft a center.

I know who I would pick, Shaefer, but I don't think the Isles will pick who I would.

Im predicting they pick Misa.

The pull of Hagens a home town boy who grew up and isles fan and is still an isle fan will be too much to pass

I dont see Schaffer being much better than Dobson (50-70PT player who at his peak year was top 10 in the league)

Miss while I think is better player upside wise than Hagens is less connected to their organization and also does give some lafrenriere like bustability.

I think they trade down to 2OA get the Stars 1st from SJs and take Hagens

Schaefer goes to SJS 1OA

Schaefer will be way better than Dobson, I really think the Isles shouldn't over think this, draft the best player and let the chips fall wherever they do.

I don't know what WJC you watched, but the one I watched Hagans was pretty much invisible and easily the 3rd best player on his own line.

Doubt he will be consistently better than Dobson was in 2023-2024.

8th in Norris on a low scoring isles team with 70 pts. Schaefer isn't a franchise altering prospect

Schaefer has shown nothing to suggest he's going to be a perennial top 5D routinely in the NHL

We have seen a bunch of elite young D-man draft high including Dahlin, Powers, Makar, Heiskinen, Byram.

3 of those become #1Ds who are contending for the Norris most years

The other two are still trying to take the step and become top pairing D.

Schaefer should be closer to Powers/Byram then a Makar, Heiskinen, Dahlin.

You have a good point, but I think he’s got a real good shot to be an all-situations type 1D. We’ll see though, this draft doesn’t really have a clear cut 1, but I think he’s the best player to take a chance on.

Have multiple elite D with an elite goalie is enough to make a team good. If Schaefer is that, then it's a no brainer. Even with Dobson.
