Who has been the Leafs' best player so far this season?

I'm a big Matthews backer and I chose him on a team of players improving their sense of "getting it", I think Matty has already figured it out. I could have even chosen a goalie and felt confident in my argument or Nylander for his improved two way play/strength on the puck, Marner for his multi purpose role and consistency. All of them are better all around players this year than last.

I made the comparison on the Main Board that I see Matthews being a dominant two way player in the same league as Bergeron with better offensive chops. I took some heat, but with Matthews trajectory on the defensive end I am comfortable with the comparison. About as big a compliment as I could surmise.

Back to the festivities. GLG.

Hard not to pick Marner, so I picked Marner.

The point streak, the ability to make his linemates better, consistency at its finest this season.

The goalies have been huge, Nylander has been playing to his full potential and the entire team getting that defense first mentality when a lot of the boys went down.

It's a team effort this year I have not seen in a long time, but my vote still goes for our little heart and soul man.

Merry Christmas Leafs nation. Back to the stocking stuffers grind.

Marner is our best player, and it's not really close either. His versatility is mind-boggling. He's the most important player on the PP and PK, he's incredible 5 on 5, can play D, and is an absolute beast with puck possession and takeaways. He can do pretty much everything. He's the reason we can even attempt a 5-forward PP unit.

Not taking away from Matthews and Nylander, they are superstars in their own right, but Marner just has this extra gear rarely seen.

Very subjective when 3 players are within 1 point of each other, Rielly's only played half the season, goaltenders have split the games.
marner PK's
Nylander scores
Matthews broadens his game

Funny thing, for the streak marner went on he only leads the team by 1 assist and is 11th. for crap stat +/-.

It may sound crazy but with the way his game is evolving he may be the first player ever in one season to score the most goals (Richard) and get voted best defensive (Selke)

I’ve never seen a guy that can win 50/50 pucks, take pucks away and then distribute them the way he does. He makes it look easy sometimes. Add to how he can score and it wouldn’t shock me if it happens.

Interesting thoughts ... wonder if he got any votes for Norris?

There has not been an instance in which the Art Ross Trophy winner has been awarded the Selke Trophy, though Fedorov finished second in regular season scoring in 1994,[3] while Hart Trophy winner and Art Ross Trophy runner-up Joe Sakic finished second in Selke voting in 2001.[

That made Fedorov one of the few players – OK, probably the only player – to be able to claim he finished in the top six in all-star voting at three positions in the same season.

Dont know. To complex to get right. So i will not vote. But Nylander has played above what i expect more then any other player thats 4 sure.

Nylander because he is having a career best year and all the rest are below career best paces.

Nylander is on pace for 48 goals and 94 points this year, including an impressive +34 +/-.

Willy's career best was last year with 34 goals and 80 points,.

I agree that Matthews "gets it". But to me that goes back to last season already. He clearly has the It factor that elite players have and the responsibility to go with it.

It's good that we have no standout player of the year. The fact that we have a group of players from all positions that could be argued as being player of the year is critical to our success.
No longer is it coming from one position or one line of our team, it's much more of a cohesive group effort.

Day in and day out...Marner.
Followed by Willy.
Matthews has been ok but needs to consistently find his higher gear.
Will be an interesting year because Marner always ups his game in the second half. They are all going to need to be fantastic and avoid injuries.
