I would say the opposite. We had lots of talent during the Ballard years...

This might be true, but the problem is if the best player ends up on a team with a horrible GM, then that team is toast.
You won't need a McDavid if you have the best GM.You can fire the horrible GM and replace him with an "average" GM easily.
You can't find another McDavid
Yeah, but in this hypothetical you're not getting a Ballard.I would say the opposite. We had lots of talent during the Ballard years...
Edmonton just needs someone who's not bottom of the barrel. The teams with the best management tend to do a lot better than Edmonton so I'd rather have the guy who's best at building a winning team
smart GM if in position would just tear down and rebuild to pick up one considering they will know who to pick and guys like Kucherov, Bergeron can be found in later rounds and assuming the GM is the best he should be able to find them. You can always hire a new GM, getting a new Franchise player is much harder.

a smart GM finding a great player? What do I expect from the best GM exactly then if he can't pick the right players? Is this sarcasm?
Sure, who needs realism, I'm sure he'll have it all done in one draft....a smart GM finding a great player? What do I expect from the best GM exactly then if he can't pick the right players?
