The obvious issue with college coaches is that if that's all the experience they have, then they haven't coached adults and professionals and it's a different thing. David Quinn struggled with that a lot in his first year or so and was one reason why the players were frustrated with him (coaching them like they were kids, too micromanaging, etc)
But some come and do well. Jim Montgomery came out of the college ranks and immediately led the stars to the playoffs. Of course he had his...issues, and has been a bit up and down since, but still seems to have made the transition easier than Quinn did
