Dubois is on pace for 64pts this season, about what's expected from him.
Kuemper has a .92SV% and a 2.17GAA.

I've been really happy with what the Caps have gotten from Dubois.

I'm also glad Kuemper has found his game again because he seemed a likeable person. Caps replaced him with Logan Thompson whose cap hit is about 85% smaller and has been borderline Vezina -candidate.

Win-win so far, i'd say.

I like the kings going forward. That PLD contract is pretty long iirc. Much more risk there.
risk and opportunity

with the raising cap it also has to chance to become a value contract. if he can be a 1c or a good 2c during the contract, he can be a great asset.

Probably about even. Both teams got out of contracts that they didn't like and both players stayed playing better in their new environments. I might lean towards the Kings, if only because I've seen more of them.

I hope that’s the case but I view it as more of a risk than an opportunity. Maybe things are finally acceptable for PLD but it seems like that can change very quickly. He’s also just not that good to be a 1 C imo. He’s 26 and good for 60 points and not much else. Even if he starts getting 70 points or so that’s not a real 1C to me.not in this era.

Hes shutting down the top line of opponents right now. All other years in his career he have had between 63 and 74 % offensive zone starts. This year he has 46,3 % ozs and is still on pace for 66 points and he is only the 7th most used guy on the PP. So with PP1 time he should have been quite close to a point per game pace.

He is definitely living up to his contract this year. Its a risk going forward, but as a Caps fan I would much rather have PLD than Kuemper. Esescially since Thompson have been amazing for very little.

The truth is PLD couldnt stand those god awful silver helmets the kings have been using. Both Vegas and LA should be docked standing points for wearing those.

Seems both teams are happy with the deal so far, which is rare.

As a fan of both teams I love the trade for both. It's even for now. Future is the tie breaker

both turned future albatross contracts into great pieces

a 3rd liner to a 1st liner
a backup into a quality starter

doesn't get more even than that

I thought on the day of the deal that it could be a nice piece of managing from both sides. Which was really only necessitated by some poor managing beforehand. Looks like it's working out so far.

Caps win because they picked up a more scarce commodity. Very difficult to find a 1 or 2C via draft trade or UFA. Usually have to pay through the nose to get one. Meanwhile goalies that put up good numbers in front of good defenses/sound defensive systems aren't as hard to come by.

LA basically have lost anyhow due to Vilardi.

Strictly based on this trade, its Washington with an albatross contract for years to come. Kuemper is gone soon.

Voted dead even, because it just feels like one of the absolute biggest win-win deals in recent memory. Both players just didn’t work at all for their previous team, and are now fantastic. As a Caps fan I’m thrilled with PLD, he’s been tremendous. I’ve always liked the Kings and I’m happy that Kuemper has been so good for them, he always seemed like a good guy too.

Funny that the Caps have been involved in a couple win-win deals this year based on what I’ve seen from Sens fans being really happy with Jensen in the Chychrun deal.

he’s never becoming a 1C.
Right now he's on pace for 63 points and has a 57.4 xGF% (highest on the Caps and 23rd out of 302 forwards with 400+ minutes at 5 on 5) while playing with good but not elite wingers, only getting second unit PP time, matching up against other teams' top lines, and starting in the offensive zone only 40.6% of the time. It's not the traditional 1C role and I don't think he'd excel in that role, but I doubt there are 30 other centers out there who'd do as well as he is if they were given his minutes.
