Who wins the Conn Smythe Trophy?

Skinner if the Oilers win

Skinner is really starting to enter this chat and I'm blown away by it

If Skinner can play like this without blowing a game I think he has to be in the conversation. But even then, I still think it's McDavid if Edmonton wins. Possibly Draisaitl if he finishes a few points ahead of McDavid. For Florida it's clearly Bobrovsky.

Has Skinner even been the Oilers' most valuable goalie in this year's playoffs?

Pickard has a 6-0 record.

Nugent Hopkins at this point. He's got multi point games in every game against Dallas. The Nuge is huge!!
Obviously I’m bias as an Oil fan, but this would be the greatest outcome I could hope for. Namely because it means we won the cup, but also because it’s probably the only chance Nuge will have to take home some hardware in his career. He’s been such a good soldier his entire career. I think he deserves it if he can keep it up and we advance to the finals.

Rantanen has been invisible for a good while now. Doing well in the first round isn't enough.

Other than that, Skinner just might be the greatest goaltender of all time. At least if he always gets to play vs the Stars.

Skinner would have to post some insane numbers to get consideration imo. Even if the Oilers win the cup almost half of their wins would have been from another goalie. They've made his job fairly easy since he came back as well.
He would have to be 95 procent in the final, with the other team outshooting them. Even then I am not sure, Oilers probably wouldnt have gone 2 the 2nd round with the form stu was in.

Dunno, I mean just last night he faced 4.27 xGA and gave up only one goal. I feel like them making his job easy is a bit of a narrative.

And obviously at this point he's not a serious MVP candidate but he went from being the second-worst goalie in playoffs(Hellebuyck takes the cake) to three shutouts in four games. Even if this game ended 1-4, it actually was a one-goal game until the empty net phase.

Considering that there is no runaway favorite this year, it will most likely be the player who is going to play the best SCF. There are 3-5 players on each Edmonton and Florida (most likely teams to play the SCF) who are in position to win.
Considering Edmonton, McDavid has been a bit better offensively than Draisaitl these playoffs, but Draisaitl is still right there in points and he has been better defensively. Then you have Bouchard, RNH and Skinner showing up this year as well.

As I've said, it probably comes down to the SCF, the NHL wanting to create the McDavid legacy will need someone else to severely outproduce him though in order to be considered.

If Kessel couldn't win the Smythe in a year where he outproduced Crosby by three points, I don't see RNH getting the award over McDavid if McDavid ends up with more than three more points than him (he's currently six points ahead).

One thing I like about baseball playoffs is that name recognition isn’t really needed to win NLCS MVP, ALCS MVP or WS MVP. NHL and NBA are heavily skewed towards big names, NFL towards QB’s

That's one thing I kind of dislike about the NFL. If no player on the winning team of the Super Bowl particularly stands out, it seems like they just award it to the winning team's quarterback by default, even if his performance is pretty much just average. Like, 18 for 23 for 197 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception? Well, nobody else stood out, so... congratulations! An MVP award for you!

It's not technically incorrect or unfair if I step back and look at it, but I still don't like it.

Yeah, QB is probably the most important and impactful position in all of team sports but too often it’s used as a tiebreaker or easy way out when voting for SB MVP

If it ends up being Florida v Edmonton then it's almost certainly McD or Dra. They are playing like absolute demons and have more assists than any Panther has total points.

Points aren’t everything. McDavid has like what 4 goals?

Draisaitl has the goals so he should get the edge even if he’s behind in points by a few.

People can try all they want to sound smart and original by picking someone else, but it's not even close:

Unless he craps the bed in the finals, it is McDavid's. His run this year will probably be top 10 all-time and will probably be 2nd all-time for ES points (he's 5 away). There's no narrative that beats this.

Yeah other players on the team are doing well, it's a damn TEAM sport with a 23 man roster. No team in modern hockey is gonna win it all with only a single player being great, but none of them beats what Connor is doing.
