Who wins the Conn Smythe Trophy?

Carolina - Aho
Washington - Wilson; Thompson
Toronto - Nylander
Winnipeg - Scheifele
Dallas - Rantanen
Edmonton - Draisaitl
Florida - ??
Vegas - ??
^^not sure it matters anyway both FLA & VGK are done for IMO
Decent list so far but it's not even halfway through alot can change.

In my opinion it's extremely unlikely Edmonton wins without McDavid winning the smythe.

Not that I think Draisaitl isn't great and worthy, I just think the only way Edmonton wins the cup (and I think they will) is if McDavid channels an extra gear, and then one more after that - and if he does, he'll stand out more than Draisaitl. Kind of like it played out last year.
Secondary players on the Oilers are stepping up but eveyone knows that if the Oilers win the SC it's going to be very hard for the voters to not slect McDavid for the CS.

I also think you're sleeping a bit on Ovechkin. I think if Capitals win the cup he's my favorite. Obviously it implies he steps up with big goals, etc - but the narrative to give it to him would be huge.

Pre playoffs this was a stretch, maybe you haven't been watching?

For the capitals it's Wilson, Thompson then a drop down to PLD and Carlson.

Ovi sits on the bench when it's close and really doesn't do much out there.

Which is fine he is 39 but not a Conn Smythe Candidate.
So - I think McDavid is definitely the favorite, but where I disagree is McDavid winning if Oilers lose.

Win the Smythe in a losing cause as a forward last year? No problem. He should have won, and he did - it was an insane performance. But the bar to win back to back smythes is very high (voter fatigue would suggest McDavid had to stand out by a big gap to win in year 2). The bar to win back to back smythes - in a losing cause - has got to be absolutely astronomical. It's not impossible, but I don't see that happening.
Yes I see this as well the Oilers seemed locked in.

But if the Oilers lsoe and McDavid is the obvious best player and no one on say Toronto stands out it will be very interesting sure.

But 2 other teams might be in the finals so who knows, lets wait and see.

Ovechkin had some very key and timely goals in round 1.

He's no longer the best player on the ice at all-times (as you say, he's 39, and has slowed down), but with key and important goals, he can still be the most impactful.

And honestly - my post about Ovechkin has more to do with the fact that I don't think Capitals can win unless Ovechkin steps up with huge goals, and a lot of them. And if he does step up with huge goals, and a lot of them, he's going to get a lot of looks for Smythe.

Pickard would have to go 16-0 to beat out McDavid or Draisaitl in a hypothetical Oilers cup win scenario.

Nylander has almost the same stats as Rantanen so far, in my
head though its like Rants has double that.
so far Rants, 2 hattricks and big games

Wilson is IMO the heart and soul of the Caps and it has been for some time now. I hate him, love hating him, but I would take him on the Bruins in a heartbeat!!!

As I made a completely failed call at the start I'm just going to jinx a whole lot by ranking my favourites, by who I hope wins it and the Stanley cup at the same time:
1. McDavid getting his second and this time winning it all. (Draisaitl would be fine as well)
2. Hellebuyck going completely stone wall and getting multiple shutouts.
3. Rantanen continuing his trajectory and giving the Avalanche's front office nightmares.
4. Ovechkin clinging his second cup after an amazing season.
5. Matthews taking Toronto to the promised land.

Leaving Vegas, Carolina, and Florida out. I just don't really have any favourites there at this point.
(Just absolutely no and already won, not that fun hockey, and already won, respectively)
