I like the firepower, the veterans & the leadership Canada has over any of their opponents. Quinn out unfortunately is a big loss for the U.S. as well (I'd prefer to have all the rosters 100% healthy so there's no excuses, but we've been fortunate than only a few stars won't be there) so that could be a factor.

As for goaltending, the USA's three are easily better than Canada's but only one can be in net at a time, so likely the backups won't have any relevance. And for one game if it comes down to Helle vs. Hill, either is capable of a monster performance.

Honestly, in a 2 game tournament who really knows. Especially when it's kind of an open question as to how motivated individual players will be. I voted US, but it's really a crapshoot and I don't think it'll tell us much about the state of the teams in reality.

What do you mean with "2 game tournament"? The teams each play 3 games before the finals.

TO be honest, not a fan of the Bennet's, Cirelli's, Jarvis of the world filling out the bottom of the lineup. I am going with the US team.
I think the opposite. I think those are amazing choices.

Bennet was GREAT in the playoffs last year and a key to their winning the Cup.

Cirelli is terrific, almost PPG and in his prime.

Jarvis is the best pick HC has made in a long time. He will be on TC for the next decade.

it sucks.. my pick was Finland and I even reasoned it out... they all seemingly can PK, they all buy into the system instantly and the PP was Heisk, Aho, Laine, Barkov and Rants. I'm sorry but that is an obscene top notch PP that competes with anyone including the Makar/McD nightmare incoming from Canada.

Then Heisk got hurt. Risto got hurt and the D took an even deeper dive.

So I no longer have a pick.lol I voted Finland but am now quite skeptical.

Sweden has no weaknesses and could easily win but Gold medal games are not a speciality.
US are the paper champs and unreal (even without Hughes) and are the paper winners.
Saw some tweets of MacK and McD skating around already... add Makar to that and who stops that? Canada also finds ways to win these things very consistently.

Go hockey!

If Crosby are out my hot take is that Canada is pretty meh on forwards behind McDavid and MacKinnon. Reinhart, Marner, Hagel etc are good but nothing special. The other teams should go all in on shutting down the Macs (easier said than done ofc) and very much will be won.

With such a short tournament there are no guarantees.

We see some of the worst NHL teams beat the best teams all the time. The team that gels the best and with the hottest goalie will win.

I picked Canada, but none of them would surprise me.

In my biased opinion Canada is the team to beat so long as their goaltending doesn’t implode. But with the skaters in front of them, Hill or Binnington should be serviceable.

US is close and Hellebuyck could just shut everyone down. We’ll see.

As a Jets fans it is good to know .920 round robin Helly will turn into .880 playoff Helly in a big game......Go Canada Go :naughty:

Americans will laugh and ridicule this opinion, but I honestly think they're overrated. Wouldn't be surprised to see them go 0-3. Helly has proven that he can't summon his A-game on the big stage.
Team Sweden is an absolute monster imo. The personnel on that team projects an identity of rock solid structure and defense.
Not really feeling Finland, alot of people peg them as the darkhorse underdog to surprise everyone, but I don't see it.
Team Canada's x-factor is goaltending, both Hill and Binnington have been on the down-trend lately, leaving them with Monty. Really should've invited Thompson. And McDavid has been a shell of himself as of late. Hopefully that doesn't carry into the tournament

With such a short tournament Finland could trap their way to a victory. But yeah no Canada is gonna win.
Without Heiskanen, Finland will not win a single game and if they score more than in the 2016 WHC, that’d be a success.

Finland will lose all of their games, I am ready to put my money on it. Outside of a few elite forwards, they’re vastly inferior to other teams. Look at that D, it’s worse than Czechia.
