The Calder is a points contest. Always has been. Fox is a PP2 guy on the Rangers, and started the season third on the depth chart behind two established good NHL RHD. He was never going to win the award. It doesn't though mean that he's not playing the best hockey of the rookie defensemen.
Fox didn't get the role this year to win the award or more seriously contend for it because the media usually will vote for the players who are right in front of them, and won't try to dig into it that much to find who is playing the best hockey of the rookies.
I don't see how it's supposed to be something we are that upset about. If Fox finishes 5th in the Calder and Hughes wins it, you are paying extra because media members acknowledged Hughes season more than the season Fox had. Why would we be upset about that?
it’s not anything to be upset about. Fox doesn’t even play heavy defensive minutes and his PK time is basically non-existent so it’s not like he’s some sort of defensive specialist. Most Hockey talking head don’t considered fox in the tier of Hughes and Makar which is why he’s not close in Calder voting and the other 2 are even getting slight Norris consideration. Hughes being better than fox is nothing to be upset about and if you think Fox is better than that’s your opinion which is in the minority and IMO incorrect but I won’t knock you for it.
