The Calder is a points contest. Always has been. Fox is a PP2 guy on the Rangers, and started the season third on the depth chart behind two established good NHL RHD. He was never going to win the award. It doesn't though mean that he's not playing the best hockey of the rookie defensemen.

Fox didn't get the role this year to win the award or more seriously contend for it because the media usually will vote for the players who are right in front of them, and won't try to dig into it that much to find who is playing the best hockey of the rookies.

I don't see how it's supposed to be something we are that upset about. If Fox finishes 5th in the Calder and Hughes wins it, you are paying extra because media members acknowledged Hughes season more than the season Fox had. Why would we be upset about that?

it’s not anything to be upset about. Fox doesn’t even play heavy defensive minutes and his PK time is basically non-existent so it’s not like he’s some sort of defensive specialist. Most Hockey talking head don’t considered fox in the tier of Hughes and Makar which is why he’s not close in Calder voting and the other 2 are even getting slight Norris consideration. Hughes being better than fox is nothing to be upset about and if you think Fox is better than that’s your opinion which is in the minority and IMO incorrect but I won’t knock you for it.

I think some of you have bought so much into this narrative that Shestyorkin hasn't played enough NHL games to get any respect from NHL fans that people take the the number of games fans use to exaggerate the point as the actual number, and don't even bother checking anymore.

Shestyorkin has played 12 games. 10 is the number of wins he has.

Same thing can be said for people thinking Markstrom is just an “average” goalie because all they do is look at the numbers and disregard how sensational he’s been for a poor VAN team that past 2.5 years.

Both goalies are very good but to sit here and have some people say “easily” Shestyorkin is pure stupidity.

Fox is actually excellent defensively, and towards the end of the season forced his way onto the PK. He doesn’t have the offensive skills of the other two. He’s an all zone defenseman. I think a lot of people don’t understand what type of player he is because of his reputation from college hockey. It surprised Ranger fans, as well.

Now the Rangers are in trouble!

Nobody’s in trouble.

You again, just lost shitload of credibility by creating a comparison poll without the proper lineups.

That’s just pathetic on your part. But then again, it’s kind of expected from you since your evaluation of NHL players is laughably horrific.

They sold Nash weeks later and McDonagh in the summer.
Hate the Rangers All you want. That’s clearly your agenda on these boards.

If you’re going to hate them, at least have the intelligence of doing your homework. McD wasn’t traded in the summer.

It’s not that hard to look up shit you clearly don’t know about. It literally takes seconds. You couldn’t have even do that, yet you want people on this forum to make believe you know wtf you’re talking about.

I’m legit embarrassed for you now.

Shame. Shhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammeeeeee.

All I did was put their dailyfaceoff lineup lol, Leivo hasn’t played since December 19th & Ferland hasn’t played since December 10th, and there is a lot of speculation that he may retire due to his concussions. When he returned he left the game again with concussion symptoms. It’s not like I left out a significant player, Leivo hasn’t even had a 20pt season in his career. Excuse me for leaving out 2 depth forwards who haven’t played hockey this calendar year.

To be fair as well, Leivo's rehab hasn't gone to plan either. Taking longer to recover and may not return this season. At their best, do both belong on the roster? Yes, they are good utility forwards. But it's ok to leave them off to as the likelihood of both playing is a toss up.

As someone without a dog in the fight, can I ask why this comparison was even done?
Was someone reliving 1994 on either end?
Because he’s a Rangers fan from Vancouver and he follows both teams, and both teams are in the same “tier” of play-in teams who were making an playoff push when the season ended. Also, pretty evenly matched on paper

Life is great. :thumbu:

Just do your homework next time. Mistakes on your part are 100% unacceptable.
You sure? You blew one minor detail out of proportion, didn't address the point, and went on some incoherent rant.

Glad to hear everything is ok.

I’m still very upset with you. Just heed my advice in the future.

It's very close...paper thin margins. Team that has the better goaltending in the series will win IMO, like the Boston-Leafs series in recent years

Not that it really matters, but he had 24 last year. And had 19 in 36 this season.

Not a big omission but worth them pointing out.

I think they’re a good matchup and it’d be a very exciting series, as a Ranger fan from Vancouver (so I watch every game of both teams) I certainly wouldn’t give Vancouver the edge in goaltending though.

Shesterkin is heads and shoulders better than Markstrom, hell I would take both Lundqvist & Georgiev over Markstrom as well. Keep in mind when making the experience argument with Shesterkin vs Markstrom that Markstrom has also never played an NHL playoff game. Shesterkin was a gagarin cup champion in the KHL and has basically rewritten the record books in every statistical category of goaltending in that league. He went from having the best numbers in the KHL for several seasons, to best in the AHL and now best in the NHL
Have you never seen markstrom play?
Stop stat watching, guy is the MVP for Vancouver and has been playing like a vezina contender for two years now.

Go ask canucks fans what Markstrom means for this team, He has been our MVP in the past 2 years, and that's with EP40, boeser, horvat, and hughes on the team.

Smarten up
