If the Oilers can get an Ekholm level impact d-man at the deadline which appears to be their goal, I think they have a good shot, but their are other good teams out there too.

It’s the Leafs year! Of course, I’ve said that every year, but one of these years, I’ll be right.
Will you be right in 2067?
They can call it the centennial cup.
Wait, I think that name is already taken.

I take The Field.

I can't say who of them it is and I'm not going to claim these named teams are stupid options, but I feel like NHL is so evenly fought series that someone can surprise and win it. And then we'll get tons of "Well duh, idiots, of course they win because they have X and everyone knows Y is the best of them all"-messages here.

NYRangers, Dallas and Edmonton are the favourites. New Jersey will have a good year but I just don’t think they are playoff battle tested, they seem to get injured a lot, playoffs they will be held together with duck tape and crazy glue. Vancouver I’d put with my top 3 with a healthy demko, but since that won’t happen, Vancouver is a pretender instead of a contender which is too bad.

They do not have a 1st this year, nor do they have many good prospects.

It depends who is available, but if they have the cap space they can trade other picks and/or future picks also.

Sure, but picks two years out aren't as valuable as picks this year. Trading future 1sts also exacerbates the Oilers biggest issue; no young talent close to being NHL ready. They have three forwards in the lineup under 30, and two of them are McDavid and Draisaitl.

They are the oldest team in the league while having one of the worst prospect pools, and they have been making picks in the 1st round throughout McDavid's time with the team. Aside from Bouchard, basically every player they took in the 1st since McDavid has been a bust or is no longer with the team.

I have no idea what your post has to do with the trade deadline, but okay. We will have to see who is available at that time and what the Oilers cap situation is. There are all kinds of options to make deals happen.
