Boy, a lot of folks are down on Stralman.
I disagree with it, personally.
I'm a little worried if the definition of "first line center" for so many people is a PPG player. There are 4 or 5 PPG centers each year at best.
Brassard is a player that doesn't like getting kicked around and being in the doghouse. He thrives being "the guy".
I love Stralman and hope dearly he keeps playing the way he did in the playoffs for us because I thought he was at times more important than Girardi.
At the same time, I think he's going to need a kick in the ass occasionally because he might tend to his older, softer ways.
Stepan will not produce, I still remember last seasons opening game when Stepan missed a couple of shots, the people in my section were cursing at him saying he is horrible and they wish he wasn't on the team. Yet they praised every little thing Callahan did. Well at the end of the season who was your best player. I would have to say Stepan. Every single player he played with played good on his line and struggled on other lines. If you wanted someone to get going Torts put them with Stepan. So once again here we go with Stepan will not produce. Why do some of these fans hate Step so much. He is a playmaker not a scorer, but yet he still seems to put goals in. So still don;t understand the hate for him
Risers:
McD - Yup, the kid will FINALLY get confidence from him coach to put him on the PP, watch his numbers double this season offensively.
Richards - With all the hate, expect him to hit 65-75 points again.
Fallers:
Dstep - Think he has a lower season this year.
Danny G - Think he starts falling back to earth.
I have no proof, but I feel Ulf will do a good job with the defense corp.
I hope so. I like to think that the players will remember all the good that Torts taught them, like McDonagh has stated. And forget all the restrictions.
I think having Ulf in town will help a lot of the players. I hope he can teach them a few things too. From what I hear, he can. I am glad he is well diversified.
An Ex NHL player. A 2 time Cup Winner. An Ex Ranger lol. A guy who played also in Sweden and grew up in Sweden playing the European style as well. Assistant coach in Youth hockey, and junior hockey and AHL hockey. As well as the NHL, which includes teachings from Gretzky and Tippet. A head coach in MODO. And now back in NYC to teach the players everything he learned.
Well to be fair its very tough to produce when you are paying 7-8 minutes ona 4th line. When he got bumped up in the boston series he looked like the player we hoped for. The kid has too much talent to be bust unless he gets injured or if he is a headcase or somethingI hope your right since it would help our team be that much more successful. Im not saying there is no chance. If he does produce I think he was a casualty of Torts system. Personally I just don't see the massive upside some do (but again, hoping I am wrong!)
This is wong. A whole lot of players are going to be on lines that does not allow them to produce the numbers some of the hopefulls on this board would like. I guess they are all fails then.
The team should be good enough to make it to the POs, hopefully make it to the second round. So much depends on things like PP, PK and AV. Hopfully AV will take this team of very talented players to the next level, my guess is the Conference final.
Its not a science though, and i wish that more people would be OK with that.\
**** happens, good teams lose, and ****** teams prevail.
Be pacient with players and we will win.
LGR.
My guess of scapegoats: Nash and Brassard (because of hopes being too high)
Heros: Stepan and Stralman
Well statistically speaking, I think the team will be very satisfied with player performance, and I say that because of the roles AV will utilize. So a guy like Step, who for intents and purposes is our Bergeron, can hit 65 Points and check the opposition's top line, and be considered a very big success.
But the beneficiary of all that, should they perform, are the likes of Brassard and Richards. At least up the middle.
So I am expecting the following with that in mind;
Risers:
Kristo: a rookie that comes out of no where and delivers a solid GPG, and PPG for the games he plays.
Kreider: He finally gets comfortable using his phyiscal gifts out there and has stretches of Max Pac like hockey, mixed in with inconsistent spots here and there.
Staal: Surprises everyone by becoming a dominant shut down force on the right side with a big shot that he skates into. AV actually tries him there, and Staal thrives, forming another top pair with...
Del Zotto: Stays on the left side, and does what he does, except he takes risks this season under AV with Staal backing him, and where there's risk, there's reward.
Fallers:
Dorsett: Ice time and stats don't allow him to be a guy who shows up on the stat sheet, fantasy value totally shot thanks to zone starts and line mates. Still shows effort every night and brings grit.
Pyatt: Suspect he will be moved out for cap space or another body after Hagelin and Callahan come back.
Let me get this straight. DZ stays on the left side and Staal pairs and covers for him from the right side?
We'll return to Girardi--he's really not a rise/fall type of player. That doesn't mean he doesn't have the odd bad game. But end of the year he'll have his ton of blocked shots, a massive amount of hits, not too much time spent in the penalty box--about 25 minutes average ice time and somewhere around 30 points. He'll be a main guy on the pk. That's pretty much what he does and in any case we don't have another right side defenseman in our organization who is near capable of doing all that. I'm sorry--we don't. The other thing is next season he will be UFA. He's playing for his next contract and right side defensemen who steadily do the things I've outlined above are pretty hard to find. If the Rangers don't lock him up and he gets to free agency he's going to be over $5 mil per rather easily. He's certainly a more valuable commodity than the likes of Clowe or Clarkson. I don't see him falling. I see more of what we've gotten from him the last few years. I see a big hole to our right side defense if he signs with another team which may be inevitable but sometimes you don't know what you've lost til it's gone.
Yes. The bigger, stronger, and better defensive player covers the tougher side.
i'll wager that if he tests FA, hes going to make closer to 6mil. And I suspect Toronto is the best fit for him.
