How about we compare it to Hughes 31 points season at 19? Or his extremely pedestrian 18 years old season where he put up 21 points?
I'm not the one making the argument that what Hughes did as a teenager was "crazy".

Still, Jack was the much better 5v5 player at 19, despite getting COVID half way through the season and losing a ton of weight. Both the eye test and underlying numbers support this.

Bedard:
1.62 iHDCF/60
6.43 iSCF/60
6.33 shots/60
0.95 takeaways/60
42.16 xG%

Hughes:
3.32 iHDCF/60
8.44 iSCF/60
7.97 shots/60
3.54 takeaways/60
53.72 xG%

Jack was really really impressive in his second year, he just didn't quite have the finish (or the finish around him) to take advantage. But he was constantly challenging defenders, creating chances with his skating at a really high rate. Which is why he was so dominant from a possession perspective. You can't say any of those things about Bedard, who has been a passenger this year more often than not. It's been a massively disappointing season for him, his lack of dynamism in his skating has visibly held him back.
