Olympics: Who will be the first 6 named?

Canada:
McDavid
MacKinnon
Makar
Marner
Crosby
Point

Canada will once again go with 5 forwards, 1 D with Marner replacing the aging Marchand. With the rise of goalies like Thompson and others, goaltending will be decided in the final cuts. Fully expect Binner to get picked, just not in the first 6.

For the Makar crowd.. isn't he banned till the court case? I'm not saying he's guilty. I'm not saying he was even in the country. But, my understanding, is that every member of that team is banned till the court case and he was a member of the team? Or did they update that at some point?

4 nations was an NHL tourney and different rules.

That may be the case, but there is 0% chance Makar misses the tournament considering his situation (not at the event).

The criminal case will long be finished by then. If guilty they will take the time to release the other bans. If not guilty criminally but definitely in a dodgy situation, I think Hockey Canada will remove the ban from uninvolved players but permanently ban those involved.

In fact I think there would need to be some very exculpatory evidence for those players to ever be eligible to participate in a Hockey Canada event.

In any case this will all play out in may/June 2026 as the trial finishes.

Makar was cleared in June 2024, Thomas, Kyrou, and Batherson have not been

Makar was cleared last summer by an independent review and Hockey Canada "lifted his ban". I'd expect the same to happen soon for Robert Thomas and maybe Jordan Kyrou unless there is some dirt on them since they would potentially be Olympic candidates and are not in the court case. We'll see what comes out about non-charged players from that team though. The "ban" was imposed by Hockey Canada, not the IIHF, so his participation in the four nations already demonstrated that he is good to go for international hockey.

As an aside, I doubt that Hockey Canada will formally ban the accused players, even presuming a not guilty verdict. Their careers are probably over, or close to it, regardless and it's easy enough to just not select those guys and avoid the headache.

I'd say that for Canada all of Crosby, McDavid, MacKinnon, Makar, and Point are locks to be named. I think Marner will probably be the other name, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was Morrissey. Maybe Binnington, but that would be dumb.

Debeoer and Cassidy made sure thompson wasn’t on TC for the 4 Nations. He won’t be picked again because Old boys club strikes again

Off the top of my head

Drai
Seider
Peterka
Reichel
Stutzl

Damn.. ran out. I think grubauer and there is another dman?

The top 4 Germans are outstanding. I keep saying if the Czechs could borrow 4 Germans or 4 Slovaks that we'd be good again.
Nico Sturm and Grubauer! Probably Strum doesn't get named. Still if I was Germany I'd just name all of them lol

I will not lie.. would not have remembered Nico Sturm

I only remember Nico Sturm because he has the same last name as Marco Sturm. Not sure if the two are related in any way. Only thing I can find definitively is that Nico is not Marco's son (would be a little weird if he was since that would have made Marco a father at age ~17). Sturm is a common enough German name as far as I know too.

I mainly know what I do about Marco because of his time with the Sharks, which is when I first started watching hockey. He was a competent secondary scorer who haunted my dreams as a Coyotes fan for several of those years before he got traded to Boston. I also thought it was cool that he was from a country that isn't one of the traditional hockey powers. That made him stick out to me even more.
