Will Quennville be that bad? I feel having a coach that has a history of making the playoffs is what our stars entering their prime wants. If you ignore the culture of Chicago under Bowman, Q has a win at all cost mentality, room was lead by a serious leader, with a primadonna scorer with maturity issues. Seems like he knows how to navigate a room like that and made it work. hes still kinda toxic, so for those that believe Franky is now penny pinching, he wouldnt've cost him a pretty penny.
As someone who played with Kyle Beach growing up, I'd rather see Quennville fired into the sun than coach the Canucks.

As someone who wasn't lucky enough to play with Beach but followed it closely, I fully agree. f*** Joel Quennville and if you actually read what happened and don't agree, you're part of the problem.

I missed this yesterday.

Rick Tocchet
  • Keep an eye on Colorado; may let Jared Bednar go
  • Have been told that Tocchet wanting to go to the East isn’t 100% accurate
  • Good interest in him around the league
Canuck Coaching Search
  • Looking for a mixture of NHL and AHL coaching experience
  • Todd Nelson is in the mix
  • Malhotra and Foote will get interviews
  • Wonders if Luke Richardson gets an interview
  • Keep an eye on Mitch Love

I didn’t think about Mitch Love but this might be the guy, he’s like a Rick Tocchet clone.

I wonder if they go with Adam Foote and Mitch Love, their nose game would on point.

He has been on my list of possibilities for a while. He is short on top level experience though. I could see if they went that route to get him an experienced asst like Stl did with Montgomery and getting Claude Julien.

Bring in Rick Bowness as his asst. Lol. The carousel needs a bunch more names added to it honestly.

He’s also from Quesnel, I think he might be at the top of list.

Looks like Jared Bednar is staying on with the Avs. Joe looking at what's out there for coaches and is happy with his.

Mitch Love is interesting. He was the fan favourite for the HC job in Calgary before the Flames hired Huska.
He is an intriguing guy for sure. Heard lots of good things about him. Quesnel boy. Some tough hombres out of the Boo. 100 Mile to PG.

A lot of the talking heads seem to prefer the exceedingly successful AHL head coach over the great assistant coach option.

I think i agree. Especially if the assistant doesn't have any head coach experience.

Might explain why Todd Nelson is the on the list then. Back to back AHL championships.

Love has a good resume, but it would be odd for me for the Canucks to hire externally when they have Malhotra in the minors. Malhotra has more pro coaching experience than Love does and would seem to be the heir apparent.

I didn't watch any Abby games this year so i don't know Manny as a head coach at all. It looks like he has done very well with them though.

But my only question with him is with just 1 year as HC is that enough?

I am really interested in a lot of coaches because I think so many have something like that where I would want to know and find out if they could overcome X.

I would prefer a clean slate for the team. Especially when it comes to EP40.

A new voice and a new approach would completely eliminate the systems variable of the equation.

Yeah, based on the some of the news that has come out since Tocc left, sounds like the guy just straight up didn't like EP at all. Maybe not fair to say, but Foote, being his assistant, may hold similar opinions.

Love has 5 years as an HC (WHL/AHL) while Malhotra has 1.

Malhotra probably has a good enough CV to start getting interviews but on paper Love is the better hire.

That's fair; I was referring more to Malhotra's experience at the pro level (a number of years in the NHL as an Assistant coach). I guess they both just have different kinds of experience.

Not opposed to either one - I think both look like good candidates. I'm just sticking to my guns that, unless they really go out for an experienced HC, I think it'll be Malhotra.

What do you consider to be an "experienced HC"? Is Nelson considered an experienced HC or inexperienced? Brad Shaw?

Manny has 7 years as an asst in the NHL. Mitch has 2 in the NHL.

Canucks’ Coaching Search
  • Not hearing any big names; a lot of AHL coaches
  • Mentions Todd Nelson as a name he’s hearing in connection to the Canucks
  • Thinks Pascal Vincent could get an interview
  • Has heard Luke Richardson’s name
  • Isn’t connecting Mitch Love to the Canucks but wouldn’t be surprised if they took a look at him
  • Have started the interview process and it will take a while
  • John Shannon, on Donnie & Dhali, said that Malhotra doesn’t have enough head coaching experience
  • Biggest concern with hiring Foote is that you can’t just sign him to make Hughes happy but need a coach for the entire team
