Want Quenville. Shouldn't condemn people for eternity we grow and learn from mistakes. Second most winning coach and would be the best to resurrect Petey.

67 is like 50 these days.

Cooper if he's fired. Would probably be the one thing to erase this entire year.

[Drance] Re Tocchet: don't be surprised if something happens, or doesn't happen. If you are surprised, I'll know about it. I have trained myself to recognize minute changes of facial expression indicating surprise.

Followed by hyena laugh, fat part of the bell curve, and "Jamie let's tier annoying Drance traits!"

Donnie and Dhali interview with Tocchet's agent so indicative of main stream media/house radio these day. Agent claims "Rick's had a lot of success in Vancouver..." Could neither ask for an example? Should they put up a Tocchet statue for going deep into round 2?

Hard, HARD pass on Q and Woodcroft.

One is a vile scumbag and the other looks like an extra from Silence of the Lambs.

He's been an NHL assistant for a minute though and done a great job by all accounts as a head coach. I'd def. say he's the odds on favourite here.
I’m not saying he isn’t going to get a long look here. I am just saying he’s too inexperienced as a bench boss. Even as an assistant he wasn’t moving up the ranks. I think it would be good for Malhotra to have another 2 years as an AHL head coach before he moves up (at least one more where he has success)

Yeah if we hire Quenneville I am organising a protest outside Rogers Arena and will not watch the team until he is fired and a personal apology is issued by Francesco to the fan base that includes a discount on tickets.

It blows my mind that people are suggesting Quenneville, where is our morale decency?
Yeah, we’re not Edmonton.

Drance making a case for Todd Nelson on canucks talk. All the guy does is win. Won 3 out of 4 calder cups in years that he was the head coach for the whole year. Spent time with Dallas as an assistant. Took over a shitty Oilers team to finish the season and was replaced by a more established Todd McLellan.

He didn't seem to understand why his name wasn't at the top of lists when coaching jobs popped up.

No retreads please. Malholtra's head coaching experience is a little sparse but he has 7 years experience as an NHL assistant and is having a great year in Abby. A long run in the playoffs would just add to his resume.
He's definitely on a NHL head coaching track. I'm sure he's thinking now or at least pretty soon he wants to make the leap.
Clearly the organization has the best handle on who he is as a coach. He knows a lot of the young players and has gotten the most out of them. I suspect the conversation will go something like this:

JR: Daniel and Henrik, what do you think of promoting Manny?
H&D: Absolutely, great guy, great choice.
JR to MM: Hey do you want the job?
MM: Excited to start today.

Should take all of 2 phone calls and 15 minutes. But I'm sure they will go through their process.

Can't say i completely disagree here just think he's still probably the front runner for the position. I'd be completely fine if that happens but yeah 2 more years of seasoning wouldn't hurt.

Gallant’s refusal/reluctance to embrace analytics has me wary of him. And I don’t see how we can look at NYR’s track record of developing prospects at the pro level and think Laviolette would be a good fit.

I think it’ll be Malhotra.

Do you have more info on this?

It'll almost certainly be Manny.

Cheap, fan favorite (we know how they love to hire those) up and comer. Stopgap until they can attract someone more senior, or until Quinn leaves and they completely rebuild.

I can do some digging tonight, and this may be something he has since addressed - but I recall a big part of his departure from Florida and/or Vegas being rumored to be because he felt the analytical side of things wasn’t important and it was a contributing factor in his exit/exits.

I disagree completely. He made a conscious decision to bury despicable acts occuring in his own backyard. That decision supported and exposed his employee to repeated sexual abuse through a power imbalance, just so he could get his place in the HHoF secured. People like that typically do not have the ability to radically change how they operate in this world.

He protected a serial predator while knowing full well what was going on, and also while being a person his player should view as a figure of trust and support. Sometimes, you f*** up badly enough that there is no real way to recover. Actions have consequences. That's life. Dany Heatley is a two time 50 goal scorer, that still gets remembered as the guy who wrapped his Ferrari around a tree and killed his teammate. Treat others with decency and respect, and you won't have to worry about ending up in that position (collectively, not singling you out.)

If they hire Quenneville, I won't watch a single minute of Canucks hockey until he's gone, and might finally decide to stop supporting them for good. And if this post sounds preachy, I don't care. It's people not wanting to talk about this openly that allows coaches like Babcock to get multiple chances for redemption while doing absolutely nothing to change how they act behind the scenes.

It's time to expect more from people in all walks of life.

Interesting. The general vibe I read is that he butted heads with management. Perhaps these things are related though and explain why he hasn't been hired.

I wish they could entice French coach out of retirement. He always seemed to handle the pressure well and was well respected by the media.

Daniel and Hank would give a good word for anyone. Heck they even gave a good work for John Torterella

But manny is the man. we all love him.

I don't know it will be him, but I think, its fine, since hes won a total 4 rounds in 3 years as a Vegas coach while coaching an inferior roster. reached the finals in 2018, reached the conference finals in 2022, As we know, he will be doing the same with the Canucks inferior roster.

Gallants regular season record.

369wins 291 Losses 82 ties
Playoff record
31-wins 29 losses.

I think Canucks shortlist will be:

Manny Malhotra, Todd Nelson, Joel Quenneville, and Peter Laviolette.

Joel Quenneville might fit the Canucks best considering his experience as a coach and player. Peter Laviolette is the vanilla pick but he is extremely successful wherever he goes. Jon Cooper isn't a realistic target.

IMO, Canucks should need an experienced coach for their group if they want to capitalize on Hughes next two years, not a rookie coach that's breaking into the league.

I don't think it's appropriate to discuss the morality of hiring Q. I appreciate and see the view point. And I will say one piece and leave it.

I think forgiveness is a really critical thing in the modern world, I know some crimes go beyond the scope of the intention of forgiveness. I also think it's really conveient of me to preach forgiveness for a selfish benefit of outcome from this coach coming here.

I am not fully aware of the details and timelines of what happened. But I do think calling the situation complex is fair and when people are under pressure they make stupid calls. Theres also an entire angle of how many individuals were involved. Bowman is working fine now and no one blinks and eye. I dont know how this is more a coach issue than a GM issue. Yea its selfish what he did for the sake of success I don't know how to respond to that in terns of "he's changed".

I should value having integrity and stand up for what's right over my hockey team winning games. But I don't correlate being a bad person for hiring Q. I mean youre watching Aqualini's team are we supporting a family beater. It's not related.

Anyway. Fairs fair. I appreciate the stance, but if we don't hire him someone else will and the years will go by and it will be a blip unfortunately.
