Wasn't Gallant's problem that he didn't want to deal with the "analytics" side of coaching? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Gallant is the only retread that seems remotely interesting.

The Athletic article about David Carle made him seem super interesting but that seems like a long shot.

There was some talk the Canucks were poking around Rickard Gronberg last time around. I wonder if he is on their radar.

STOP GIVING AWAY THE ARTICLE I’M WORKING ON

I've always been a fan of Laviolette. He's been solid everywhere, and I don't blame him at all for the disaster in New York this year. Rutherford connection too.

Laviolette, Gallant, Todd Nelson, Jeremy Colliton, Mike Yeo, Jay Woodcroft ... all names I could live with.

Sullivan doesn't want to leave the East, so he's out. Laviolette? No thanks.

Canucks are now one of eight teams looking for a head-coach this off-season. And for a number of reasons, Vancouver won't be the most attractive destination for a lot of potential guys.

Promoting Malhotra and surrounding him with some experienced assistants, seem to me to be the safest route possible. It's not like he's 'inexperienced'. He's been assistant coach at number of places in the NHL--including Vancouver.

Sooner or later you have to bring some new blood, and give a rookie coach a shot.

Gallant is the only old school candidate i’m interested in. Vigneault as well, but that reunion would probably never happen.

I just hope whoever they choose is a forward thinking coach who preaches an uptempo style of play and doesn’t muzzle the offense.

Foote is Tocchet’s right hand man, so he’s almost certainly gone, but i hope they can somehow retain Gonchar.

Remember what made Van attractive to Bruce and others was that we had a younger team with a forward group of Pettersson (when he was good) Horvat, Miller, Boeser, Hughes and Demko, we had loads of potential. I can’t see a head coach being excited about our forward group and why higher profile coaches may pass on us.

I have a feeling I am going to be disappointed in who we pick. But that feeling might just be indigestion or the fact that as Canucks fans we are trained to lower our expectations.

Rutherford may have given a sneak preview of what to expect, in today's press conference.

He pointed out that then they hired Sullivan in Pittsburgh, they promoted him from from their AHL farm-team in Wilkes Barre when the team was on a heater, and he brought a number of guys with him.

If Malhotra takes the Abby Canucks on a long playoff run, he gets promoted, he could also bring some Abbotsford Canucks with him. I can think of Mancini, Sasson, Karlsson, Raty and even the likes of Klimovich or Kudryavtsev.

Sooner or later, the Canucks have start graduating guys from their AHL team, whether it's coaches or players.

Jay Woodcroft anyone ? He looks like a bit of a weenie but he's well spoken and a smart guy. He had the best winning % of all Edm coaches. And got screwed by bad goal tending. He started off at the bottom in coaching and is fully developed. He worked in the west for 2 stints and would be cheap cheap. He just wants back in the league

In order of preference:
1. Quenneville
2. Todd Nelson
3. Malhotra
4. Woodcroft

Quenneville has served his time and if he has rehabilitated and learned, he should be the next coach. Choosing a vastly inferior candidate in a results-based business due to something that happened 15 years ago is a loser mentality.

Quenniville would turn 67 by the time training camp came around in September. According to my math, that's at least two years past the mandatory retirement age for the rest of us.

Would a 67 year old coach have some problem relating to players in their early to mid-20'? Uh, you think?

A big 'no' to Quenneville. At some point the coaching fraternity needs some new blood. Recycling old coaches who are past their 'best before date' is beyond depressing.

i don't hate the idea of hakstol. i think he'd do well with a younger roster like anaheim but he could work here too. he's a good tactician and teacher

i'd probably look at bannister or colliton but i dunno what went down with colliton that he left the org last year

Doesn’t really matter as it’ll be a placeholder. Got to focus on maximizing Quinn Hughes return and gearing up for the rebuild.

Just got to pray Aquilini sells the team and we may get a SJ style rebuild.

Very good news Tochett is gone. Guy was a mediocre coach. Boring ass games to watch.

I don't always agree with ya but I do agree with ya that our owners is pure trash, and that Tocchet is a great guy, but I don't see it as a big loss. For me, when we lost. A.V it was a bigger blow. as I said in a previous thread, I pointed out Tocchets record as NHL coach. Its not pretty and hes asking for 4 million its just out of touch.
