What you would be willing to do to get a 25y.o top 6 center ( let’s say a Robert Thomas \ 70pts\season type that is under contract for a while )
I would be very tempted if the price included any\all of Dach-Newhook+ Calgary’s 1st round pick.

Curious to know everyone’s opinion.

I feel like I’m alone in this except for maybe @ChesterNimitz but I’d see what we have in Beck who’s gonna be here no later than next year.

Hage probably gets one more year of NCAA and very possibly bypasses Laval altogether.

Kapanen might not quite have the upside but still we have these 3 knocking at the door. I would see what we have in these guys. Unless we can get someone for a song and a dance.

Plus I haven’t even given up on Dach yet.

I think we should always be looking for talent.

We should condider what’s coming though. We have Beck and Hage, Demidov is on the way and might be able to play center… and Dach could still bounce back.

A lot would depend on if they think Demidov can play there. If that’s the plan then there’s less urgency to do something.

Way to early in the rebuild to start adding players, as mentioned we have 4 possibilities in house.

Not when it's 25 year old player of Thomas calibre. Habs would be a contender next season with him. Laine may already have taken then Habs out of a good draft pick this season.

Evans now with Beck getting a test run before season's end. We need to fix our 2G situation with a trade right now. Another RD would be nice too, but unlikely.

Depends on who it is.

And the cost.

So what's it going to take for the Blues to ship him here? You'd have to think it will hurt the habs 'proverbial' wallet. Can't see St.Louis wanting to move him either.

On the one hand the habs aren’t at the point where they should make short term moves. Get another high pick, move out some deadwood, try to fill spots cheap and ensure there is competition from Laval.

But if there is a chance to get a truly elite player they have to do it. Now that picks are protected you can avoid Haller for 1OA trades. The habs don’t have many really high end players, and Vegas has shown that aggressive moves can work. I’d be careful with habs top picks, but I don’t see anyone as truly untouchable. Definitely some guys who would leave holes if they leave.
