The best duo of the early 90s vs the best duo of the late 90s..

This isn't necessarily who are the "better" players as Kariya and Selanne would obviously win that considering their consistency as top players compared to the other 2.

More like, who was the better duo when they played together?

When LaFontaine and Mogilny were together you had a rocket richard winner, and an Art Ross Winner (if not for prime Lemieux). Both elevated each other immensely and didn't come close to replicating their stats seperate from one another. (Mogilny moreso)

Selanne and Kariya have way more games played together and were also came close to leading the league in points at one point (Selanne leading the league in goals). However, they have seasons were they produced at a very similar level without each other.

Who was the better duo?

Selanne/Kariya - together combined they had 1 Richard, 7 AST and 6x Top 10 Hart finishes.
That's basically just comparing their careers though. Almost everyone knows Kariya/Selanne had much better primes than Lafontaine/Mogilny. They also have many more years together as a duo which isn't necessarily fair to Mogilny and LaFontaine since they only have 1 true healthy season together

Which is why I'm more interested In who was the better duo at their best.

No, those are the accolades they got while playing together.

peak Patty and Almo easily

obviously Kariya and Selanne had a lot more time together to do damage

Even their peaks are pretty close though, the 1992-93 season inflated their peak level in comparison.
I watched all these guys play and I am taking Lafontaine duo, although I think Paul Kariya is an underrated player. Not sure he ever achieved his full potential.

Kariya and Selanne all Day, every Day

I was such a fanboy of both of Them, that at that Time, I prefered the Mighty Ducks over Montréal

In fact Kariya is one of my top 3 favorite players ever, with Lemieux and Roy

Did they even play together in the early 90s as regular linemates?

No, but they were regular linemates in 96-97, which was Kariya and Selanne’s best season together. If LaFontaine and Mogilny is based mostly on one year, then you could argue Lemieux-Jagr were the best duo of the years Kariya-Selanne were a duo as well I suppose.

Yeah they could be considered for the late 90s then, and would of course be easily the best duo.

This shouldn't be particularly close, Mogilny and LaFontaine didn't really play together that much. Outside of the monster year (lots of players had monster years that year), they didn't do much. The year before they scored a lot as well, but only played 67 and 57 games respectively and the years following LaFontaine played 16 and 22 games.....this shouldn't even be a discussion.
