Every year at the last home game a Bruins playe the writers select who they believed played the best at home and the trophy is the Dufresne?

But who was Elizabeth Dufresne?

All I can find out is that in 1935 some friends of Ms. Dufresne donated a trophy in her name to the Bruins and that she was a big fan. I can't pin down if she had died suddenly, was a Gallery God or anything else about her.

Wow, nhl team sweaters sure have come a long way in 50 years.
That one worn by Phil looks absolutely discount dime store.

I kept digging and learned that sometime in 1935 Ms.Dufresne was no longer able to attend games in person but the reason was not given.

It would not shock me if Stephen King stored away the Dufresne name listening to Bruins games on the radio in Maine. He has been seen at Bruins games often over the past 40 years.

Back in the 80's a Bangor radio station decided to drop Red Sox and Bruins broadcasts and King BOUGHT the station to have the sports continued.

Memories of childhood when my love affair with the Bruins started.

I never went to a Bruins game with my Mom - she developed circulation problems in her legs and stopped going to the Garden ( and it turns out my problems today comes from her - Thanks Mom :) )

But growing up in Brighton she loved the Bruins and family lore said at one time she dated Eddie Shore before she met my Dad ( at a Bruins game no less )

My Mom's love for the Bruins can be summed up by something that happened in 1968. The Bruins had made the playoffs and would play Montreal and that made her buy a color TV which was still a big investment in 1968.

My Mom most likely knew Elizabeth Dufresne or at least who she was. I would love to know more about this woman.

On the couch
I was about to Google this exact question last night...particularly when someone on my Twitter feed made a reference to Andy Dufresne. Instead, I sidetracked and went down a Shawshank clickhole. But I got back on track this morning. I found this interesting little tidbit from an auction 5 years ago:

http://www.paragonauctionsite.com/1965_66_John_Bucyk_Elizabeth_C__Dufresne_Trophy-lot1457.aspx

Someone got Bucyk's 65-66 trophy for $400, assuming the reserve was met, the transaction went through, and that the item is authentic and legally acquired. If it's legit, it seems like it should be worth a little more, especially compared to signed pucks of current players going for about $50.

I mean, hell, I'd have a hard time not shelling out the $400 and then trying to get in touch with the Bruins to give it back to Bucyk. Though I assume he's got plenty of baubles...

Didn't find any more info about the woman, though....
