Who to sign to change the DNA?

I'd get rid of Nylander first and foremost, but evidently he was shopped previously and there was zero interest.

Bullshit. There would be all kinds of interest in him.

GMs in this league never learn and need to be saved from themselves.

With your expertise you should send your resume to NHL teams. I'm sure they'll be tripping over themselves to hire you. We might even see a bidding war.

Yes I noticed that. Unfortunately it wasn’t his.
At least he knows what type of player is required to win.
Unfortunately, he came into a bad situation that he’s making worse and I doubt he’ll pull the trigger and make the same mistake in his last year in Toronto.

This is a very real possibility, however, it’s also possible that we trade more and more to try to prop up a group and make it worse.
Let’s hope Tre knows what he’s doing.

I don't think they'll necessarily trade any more 1sts. But the remaining picks from now to 2027 + Cowan/Danford i wouldn't get too attached to.

I'd look first to free agency by BT to start finding players. i.e Brand Marchand or Nik Ehlers

Then with a lot of cap space and some teams looking to create some there could be possibilities available in trade with little cost. ie, Mika Zibanejad or Rickard Rackell etc.

Then I'd look for BT to move out Nic Robertson, Kampf, Jarnkrok, Domi etc to create more cap space or switch the DNA to more fitting style.,

Last but not least he would turn to dangling Leafs top prospects an picks. But Iif he dealt them it would have to be for something really good. IMO

i still want toews for 3rd line center and prob a winger that knows how to win(ratboy or kane), but im torn because as long as mcdavid hasnt signed and given the strength of next years FA class yet im hesitant to make any long term commitments.

i suppose JT for a similar deal that duchene just signed is likely too.

I think Treliving was referring to getting more playoff style players when he mentioned changing the DNA. They’re better off signing Marner at 15 than that crap above

However we have seen enough evidence that Marner cannot perform under pressure. We are in a real dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t.
Shanny Dubas and and to a lesser extent Treliving are to blame .
It is going to be tough, long and painful to correct this mess

Losing Matthews or Marner can't possibly improve the club unless there is new talent added. A club plays differently when a star player isn't there. Desperate and short term because teams rely on their stars. That really suggests that the team has more game but are letting 34 carry the weight. Or maybe the coach is?

Well, we know there will be new talent brought in.

They don't need to replace marner, they need to make the team better.

The team with marner didn't get it done, thus the DNA search.

I think the worst thing management can do is identify this off-season as a do or die opportunity.

Even with Zibanejad's helter skelter production, I don't think there's much to the rumours that he and his $8.5M dollar hit will be available. Crunching the numbers and comparing what's on the market will likely cool Rangers' management from trading him.

For our purposes, with a likely Tavares signing, we need 3C and 4C candidates: I think Suter/Faksa. Previously thought Kuraly, but his injury history might rule him out. Centers who are defensively responsible and versatile.

Lower cost wingers like Kapanen, Kiviranta, Armia should be considered. And yes because they're Finnish.

In 2026, there will be (extensions notwithstanding) a better crop to choose from, including Adrian Kempe and Alex Tuch. I don't see or know if McDavid is a difference maker when its all said and done. His cap hit, does the same thing the Core Four has done. With one leaving and one taking a substantial pay cut, we should see the opportunity to divest from previous "We can and we will" operating procedures.

Gavrikov (or Provorov) this year would be a good, prudent step from the 2025 UFA market with an eye towards a bigger step in 2026, having made a trade or two or three in the interim.

They shopped him before he signed his contract, no bites. Any team would be lucky to have my expertise. You'd never see a first and a prospect traded for a Scott Laughton ever again.

It’s not worth going all in scorched earth. These annual deadline panic buys and mortgaging the future just to be competitive in the second round isn’t worth obliterating the 2030s.

The healthiest thing the Leafs can do is be open to taking a couple of steps back, healing the depth chart and development system and then use the cap space increase simultaneously to fill up both ends of the organization. Can’t keep running on fumes getting older and older.

and we need to build up 3 all round scoring and defensive lines like Cats .. 1/2 lines does not work in playoffs .. we need 3 deep lines and an energy line for 4th .. hopefully we can sign 3 guys to replace Mitch who can produce in all aspects of da game .. get 20 goals per and play on da right side of puck defensively
Wait, I thought we needed to be like the Bruins.... I mean Lightning...

We cant keep trying to be someone else after its been done.

Whew: Toews signed with Winnipeg.
