Definitely a mental thing. If it gives Leafs momentum and Bruins end up losing series it could be something Monty never gets past here.Going Swayman is safe career move.

It's a Monty free roll. If Linus loses,Sway is back up in the rotation anyway. Plus you're giving Swayman the tough game in Toronto.

Or:

Let them break down video on how to beat him for 2 days and totally mess their minds when Ullmark is the first goalie out for the warmup and they think now what?
I am sure having lost 5 straight to him they have looked at a crapload of video on him by now though.

Just use swayman until he loses, then swap to ullmark and give him until he loses.

Changing after wins seems borderline insane

It's almost a must win now because it's a classic damned if you do - damned if you don't type of scenario.

If they start Swayman and lose game 2 then it'll be "haha what happened to the platoon!?!?"

If they start Ullmark and lose game 2 then it'll be "haha you guys are idiots, why would you not start Swayman after his performance in game 1!?!?".

Arguments can always be made but it's pretty hard to deny how Swayman has dominated the Leafs . There is zero reason to take the net from Swayman . If you can think of a reason you're over thinking it.

After all the trade talk, I doubt Ullmark is anything but focused. People forget he was hurt for last years playoffs, not this year. They drive each other, with loving brotherly competition, to be better. I have no doubt Ullmark will be prime Ullmark.
You can't bitch all season about last years playoffs not using the year long rotation and have one impressive win change your philosophy. That's called hypocrisy.
The reason the B's have any chance this post season is that their goaltending is top end in the NHL, due to 2 pretty equal guys.

I can’t believe this is being questioned. Playoff pressure is too much for Let ‘Em in Linus. Why kill momentum by switching?

You can't break the starts up 42-39 or whatever it was and then start one guy every other night. This is what they created and they need to continue to do it.

I believe you don’t have to go full rotation (1-1-1-1 etc.) you can break it up (2-1-1-2 or what ever).

But as others have said, I think you stick to the rotation early in the series. Then if one guy really runs away with it down the stretch, let them finish it off. Thus, you start Ullmark

It’s not hypocrisy. It’s short term memory lol

And yes, the narrative always seems to leave out that Ullmark was injured AND they went away from their bread and butter (the rotation).

Either decision is going to be questioned and picked apart unless they win.

Personally, I give Swayman the net until he loses or starts to struggle.
Exactly.

Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t.

Monty made the right call in game 1 (I thought they should go Ullmark). I think he’ll pick correctly again
