I know this is how it works in the NFL, but I’m not confident it’s the same for the NHL. I could just be making an ass of myself in assuming it’s the same.

I don't believe it is codified by the league (I could be wrong, too, wouldn't be the first time) but it might be part of the standard assistant coach contract, or even negotiated individually by guys. That said, I do believe it is customary and accepted that guys can leave for a head coaching gig on another team. I also don't know what the standard assistant coach contract looks like. Are they year to year? You see guys leave all the time. It's interesting. If someone here knows, please tell us!

Can we also talk about how Monty was an assistant coach and brought in to be HC and (while he did underachieve massively) also produced the NHL's best season record? That's gotta be attractive to any assistant or head coach in this league, regardless of the record for any given season(or this miserable season).

I think torterella would be good. Play some defense, tight checking. The bruins keep drafting and signing big guys who can skate. those kind of guys excel in torts system

I’d rather have another round of Sacco than another round of Sullivan. He had the Bruins playing soft when he was here before and it’s something he clearly embraces. This year his Pens have a total of seven fights. We aren’t exactly the Big Bad Bruins these days but we have thirty.
I’m sure Sully laid down in the fetal position under the bench while each of the seven were going on. I had more than enough of him the first time around.

Attitude towards fighting is definitely at the top of my list for the next coaching candidate. Honestly nothing else is really close.

Geekie when scratched on road earlier in season spent time working with assistant coach Sacco and when he took over put him back in and moved him with Pastrnak full time

I didn’t say any of that. Sullivan loves a soft team. When he was here the first time he ran PJ Stock, Colton Orr and Sandy Mcarthy out of town as part of his agenda. They had to force him to play Doug Doull later in the year because we were getting run 10-12 times per game.
I kind of hope Sully comes back so I can say “I told you so” when he completely neuters the team to play the same style he did as a player.

Sullivan would not come back - he wouldn’t put his family through the abuse that comes with being a Bruins coach or GM (I’m serious)

Pastrnak has been with Sacco since he hit scene in 2015. Monty went dark this offseason and was not lost on everyone something was different with him.

He benched Pasta full period in Seattle and Pastrnak play and expression was off. Sacco got the job and encouraged him to be a leader

Under Monty 8 G 9. 17 P in 20 Games
Under Sacco 33 G 50 A 83 P in 57 Games

So are you pushing for Sacco to get the job?

Absolutely

Once I heard the Pasta/Sacco relationship coincided with his breakout and the Geekie stuff I converted

Sacco last night time out last night great timing

2 weeks ago I was Sullivan but told forget it even if he was fired and offered

Then the Sacco stuff with 2 of his best players I am sold

He was also good with Brad after he benched him late & OT and they were good after - I was seeing stuff this could be a catastrophie

Nope

I love the idea of Chara being the coach. He is already back working with the organization. He saved this team once, let him do it again. He would reignite the culture of this team and would be such a presence behind the bench. Hire Savard as an assistant. Restarting with these two just like they did 20 years ago.

Well, I have said all along that I think he was shoved into a real shit show, and there is I bet a lot we don't know that went on, and probably never will for some time, but to be honest, I do have one bitch and that was the offside that he did not challenge, still bothers me, but who advised him not to challenge the call, I Kelly was bending his hear pretty good, but who knows. Hey maybe you are right and have the right call, but I will tell you one thing I want done, and let this guy have a clean slate, and not having someone looking over his shoulder, the entire coaching staff must be let go and the give this guy a fair fighting chance.

He deserves a clean slate

When I heard about the respect people in the organization have for him - no bullshit, no mind games, encouragement and the Pastrnak & Geekie meteoric rise in play and maturity.

They may go in another direction like Nate Leaman we shall see

You might be right, I am not saying no, but I am at least listening to your pitch.

They had a full squad under Monty more or less. Lohrei’s overtime has drastically increased. Hence the horrendous +/-

In lost Bruins season, Morgan Geekie continues to build chemistry with David Pastrnak - The Boston Globe

The chemistry between the wingers has been evident for a good stretch now.

“Dave’s a great player. Obviously 100 points in this league is not something to shake your head at and to do it three times in a row speaks to the kind of player he is,” said Geekie, who may be the only guy in the locker room who refers to Pastrnak as Dave. “But I mean from my point of view, I think yeah, we read off each other pretty well and just try to find spots to get open for him and I think that’s a skill I’ve grown over these last couple months just trying to learn to play with him and where he likes to be, where I know he likes to put the puck. I think that’s just a skill you’ve got to learn, and I’ve been fortunate enough to play with him for enough time now to kind of figure those things out and we’ll keep growing together for sure.”

Will that growth continue into 2025-26?

A two-year, $4 million pact that Geekie signed in the summer of 2023 is up at season’s end . The 26-year-old will be a restricted free agent and is in line for a big raise.

Geekie, who also has set a career high with 23 assists to go with a high mark in goals, said he hasn’t spent a ton of time thinking about what’s next. He’ll leave the negotiating to his agent.

“I know there was a lot of talk going into the deadline with what was going to happen with me and I’m just happy to stick around for another month and a half and if that’s as long as I’m here, then that’s how it’s going to be,” he said. “But I love it here, like I said before, and I’d love to stay as long as I can, but like I said, it’s a long summer, it’s a business at the end of the day and I thank the organization for all the opportunity and just I’d love to be a part of it moving forward, for sure.”

hmmmm….

Under Monty - H Lindholm, McAvoy, Carlo
Under Sacco - Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves

Tank (the Beat Goes On)
Wait... so you are saying there are other factors to a player or two's numbers, and that it is incredibly reductive to ascribe just one factor to what could be caused by many things.
