Well if they hire Torts at least the players who thought Cassidy was a meanie are no longer here to throw a temper tantrum

Cassidy wasn't a meanie. If he were just a meanie no one would have cared. In reality, he was an unprofessional dick who blamed the players for his name not being on the Cup and took it out on them personally on a daily basis. He was also a coward who waited for Chara to leave before he started his vendetta because he was scared shitless by Big Z. There's a difference.

Reading on TSN that there's speculation that Rick Tochet might go to the Flyers. He might be a good hire for the Bruins...

I feel like Vancouver would have to go off the deep end to get rid of Tocchet but if they do, I'd have my eyes on him.

He's enforced a VERY conservative style in Vancouver though so I don't know if he'd provide the most eye-popping hockey but if he can produce results . . . .

Torts might be actually worse than the people pining for Sullivan.

The dude got fired because he basically came out and said "i don't care." That's the guy people want?

From 2 days ago, in case we all need a reminder
That's not what he said. He said he wasn't interested in coaching that kind of team referring to a tanking team losing for a draft pick. He was on the record anti tanking the year before. Philly with their goaltending is clearly wanting to tank and that put Torts at odds with management. That was the issue. It was not "I don't care".

So for the Bruins, if they want to keep tanking and go for McKenna next year then Torts isn't the guy (although the disconnect might yield the result anyway). If you want to do that you stick with Sacco or go in house with Leach. I don't think the Bruins want to do that though.

What if Marchand comes back? McAvoy and Lindholm are healthy. Swayman has a summer and gets back in form. Poitras and Minton both come up and shine. They spend to the cap wisely and add somebody else. Are we suddenly back in shape? Is Torts the right guy for that team? idk, maybe. The experiment would be fun though. Certainly more entertaining than where we are at now.

I think they need Bruce Boudreau for maybe one or two years. He's great with teaching the game and knows how to build positive relationships with the players. He's a hockey nerd who loves the game. You're not going to find him ripping on players in the media or putting people down. I think that Torts is a fantastic hockey mind and can teach discipline, but it's all that other stuff and the controversies that swirl around him that we don't need.

And Mike Sullivan, keep in mind he had Crosby in his prime. What do you think he is going to do with a rebuild? No thanks.

I voted Torts but I believe he ends up an assistant Coach under Joe

Was talking to a couple of my posse hockey buds and this seems to be the thought process

Sacco is masterfully navigating the tank and should get a chance to coach a fully stacked lineup that includes Hampus & Charlie.

Very funny, Torts working under Sacco gave me a good chuckle. Sacco will never sniff another NHL Head coaching gig.

Bruce Boudreau is 70 years old. We need the exact opposite of Bruce Boudreau. Could have had Carbery - we need that kind of guy in today’s NHL.

Leach will be in consideration and is probably the favorite. They made a big deal about bringing him back here and they didn’t give him the job this season only because they knew this was a shit situation. A huge plus for Leach too is that he wore the sweater in Boston and he’s coached in the organization. If they don’t go with Pandolfo or Donato they’re going to go with someone who has ties to the organization. Sullivan is interesting to this theory because he’s been a coach here before so he’s another guy that Sweeney Cam and Harry know well. But I agree as much as I’d like an innovative mind with zero Bruins ties there is zero chance Sweeney goes with that.

Also if you’re going to make a joke out of this and have Leach coach the team you might as well decide to give Milbury the job and see if HBO wants to do the first ever season of Hard Knocks NHL.
I can't see Donato leaving a lifetime job for a couple years bouncing around the NHL coaching carousel.

Mike Sullivan is using the Jim Montgomery playbook

Pens getting hammered game after game - they are losing 7-2 to Penguins after 2 periods

Former teammate of Donny, 2 time SC Coach, college teammate of Sacco (he goes back to assistant), FIL of McAvoy

Lock the thread we got a winner

Sullivan is certainly a viable candidate, I know a lot of people don't want him but you could do far worst.

Torts is a sideshow honkey-tonk man.

I wish people could just say Torts isn’t a great fit for this team rather than rip rhe guy. He won a Cup and teams keep hiring him. So either everyone in the NHL is a moron or maybe this guy has something to offer.

I’m not supporting him for next head coach, but for crying out loud our current coach is Joe fuc$ing Sacco. Who are we to rip on other coaches?
