Who should the Bruins hire as their next Head Coach?

I voted other.

Should be me.

Otherwise I am with @Saxon Eric and go Carle. But I would love Dale Hunter.
I also voted other. I did not think of Dale Hunter, but I remember his year coaching the caps. He tried to turn Ovechkin into a responsible two way player who forechecked and backchecked. Neither Ovie nor the home crowd who can’t tell offside from icing wanted any part of it. They were all content to let him float at the other blue line and wait for a stretch pass. Hunter was gone after one year.

Contrary to popular belief I don't think Philly is going to fire Torts. If they do I'd go with that. Polarizing for sure, but Philly's problem is goaltending not coaching.................oh wait........................never mind.

I also don't think Sullivan will be fired but that depends on what Crosby wants.

I'd go Gallant myself. He has done more with less in the past and that's what we have now. Seems to have issues with upper management in his career but players generally like him and play for him.

I suspect however, that Sacco will be fired and they will go with Leach on a 2 year deal. Two years I suspect is Sweeney's rebuild timeline for real progress or he might be shown the door. But he won't be until they see if he can turn it around first.
If Sacco is relieved I expect Leach will be the next head coach.

Trotz also made Ovi more responsible and they won a Cup, so I doubt the validity of this argument.

Why do people think that Leach would be the new coach after this complete disaster of a year in which his defense played a major role in that. Hiring him would be nothing but a lazy cheap hiring. Chances are Sweeney and company are getting fired if their next hire goes south, I doubt he wants to stake his future on Leach.

Bruins need a mean coach right now, there's no discipline in their play. The Torts/Cassidy type to get them in shape, with the backing of the front office so if the players complain it doesn't matter, and the coach can keep doing what he's doing. Those type of guys only tend to last a couple years, before the players tune them out, but a lot of the ingrained discipline will remain when the next "nice guy" coach takes over.

I’d want Torts. Sure he’s outspoken but he’s also a good coach.

Who will it be? Pandolfo Leach or Donato.

Sweeney has unlimited rope. I don't think it’s Leach but he did wear the sweater and they made it a priority to get him back here. The next head coach IMO more likely than not has played for the team before.

I’m not advocating for Leach or any other coaching candidate. That choice belongs to management.

I simply had the sense that Bruins management initially hired Leach expecting he would eventually fill the head coach role.

I don't want Tortorella but to act like he's never achieved anything is ridiculous. The guy coached the '04 Lighting to the cup. Granted that was 21 years ago. But still.

What about sparking a new generation and go with Misha Donskov?

Sweeney brought him aboard the team Canada coaching staff. Guys got a history of success, has done just about everything other than be a head coach and has a great reputation as a problem solver.

This is the first idea I’ve seen that truly hits for me.

Nice work.

Looked into Donskov a bit since i hadn't remotely a clue who the hell he is.

That's the type of hiring i would be down for. Fresh face with oodles of experience all around the sport, organizational ties seem non-existent outside of Sweeney bringing him in for Team Canada but that's based on merit rather than cronyism.

Let him cook.

A team this bad and projected to be bad again could use a guy like Clode with sound D structure.Dale Hunter be sweet but he is not coming here anytime soon.
Hunter is a pipe dream. The NHL fanbase did this dance a decade ago when the Caps pleaded with him to stick around when he took over as an interim as a favor to George McPhee.

The only way you see Dale Hunter in the NHL again is if the London Knights somehow become a franchise in it.

Yea,I don't see Dale back anytime soon either.I am afraid Sweeney is going to go with one of his buddies here instead of a guy who can help get this back on track. Nothing on that bench right now is the answer. Clean it out

Trotz did make Ovi more responsible. He made the whole team more responsible. With respect, it is not an argument - it is history. It doesn’t change what Hunter - who preceded Trotz - tried to do or that they ran him out of town on a rail (he “resigned”). I have lived in the DC area off and on since 95. I have seen it all from that hapless franchise which still holds the NHL record for regular season losses. They have a good team this year, we will see how far it goes.

Ah, yep, I see what you were saying now. I thought you were making an argument against Hunter. My bad.

If they felt that way then why wasn't Leach named the interim coach instead of Sacco.

Not sure who I want but wouldn’t be surprised the short list is Sullivan, Leach, Laviolette, Sacco. Seems like Sweeney’s recent picks is guys that would never be out spoken with management. Torts is too brass for Sweeney to take a chance on.

What I care for is a strict Xs and Os guy that is going to instill the basics of a 200 ft game and accountability to do what is best for the team. That type of leadership will be needed for the younger prospects coming up and a reset of the culture. 2011 era is over, it’s time to develop it
