Speculation: Who should the Bruins hire as their next Head Coach?

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

That thought went through my head because you'd think he'd of gotten another shot by now. On paper his track record looks great.
I have to think that the majority of AHL coaches and assistants ultimate goal is like the players and to make it to the big leagues no? Odd, only thing I can think of is the NHL is simply putrid at giving guy`s their first shots, they would rather recycle

Do you take a flier on a David Quinn as a two year stop gap?

Local guy. Currently on Sully's staff. He's got some experience as a head coach at the NHL level.

Maybe he comes in and in year two has them sniffing around the playoffs. If not, you cut bait and bring in the guy who will see things through as they return to contention.

I felt he got a raw deal that year he took over in Edmonton (McDavid's rookie year). Team improved under Nelson but that off-season Chiarelli wanted a proven brand-name coach and hired McLellan.

Are you planning on completely tanking the next two years? Because if so, David Quinn would be perfect.

You'd be hard pressed to find a worse 5 years of NHL coaching than this record of no success.

I just hope they look at all the coaches behind the bench...not just one.

I am not saying they all need to go but changes are needed.
I wonder if they’re planning on giviing mougenel a look.By leaving Poitras and Minten down in Providence as their near future is with the bruins and more than likely as early as next year, among others and with a huge portion of the b’s already familiar with him, has me wondering if that’s their short term plan moving forward. No idea if it is or if it would be the right one, but if they do bring him aboard imo their admitting this is at least a couple of years for a re-tool project.

I went with other in David Carle but I could see Mougenel getting the job.

Only problem with my thought process is I don’t see Sweeney giving into the idea of this being anything more than just a one year fall off and with some FA signings this off season, better health and the Bruins will be right back in the hunt.Although imo he would be wise to try and bld through the assets he’s recently acquired and the 2026 draft.

I'm off the Sullivan train because there isn't a chance in hell I want the Sullivan/McAvoy dynamic on this team.

Your NHL coach is your FIL and you're also either the C or A? Nope. Get that shit out of here.
Fun for international events, not good for your day to day job. I don't even think the issue would be Sully or Mac, it would be the media creating stories or narratives about it.

I agree. I'm sure it is a combination of things. And you are right that going on a coach per year schedule is a bad play.

That said, although this year's team was never structured to be a winner it probably wasn't as poor as the results have shown.

There were season long consistent flaws that plagued this team throughout with virtually little to no improvement over the year. IMO the current coaching staff is not the answer for building anew.

Decide what sort of team and style of play you want to adopt, and then pick the guy who best suits that style and move forward. And stay the course. As Wally and others have stated, this is not a quick fix. Be strategic and look for sustainable results, not quick fixes.
This is why I think bringing Lysell is wrong, this team as it is, has no real system that Lysell needs to learn and adapt to, it's a mess, the team is a mess!
I get he needs to be up in Boston, but is he really learning anything that will make him better now and in the future?
Just my two cents.

I voted for Carvel but honestly this isn’t a great list of coaches.

Are there some great assistants floating around the league?
Carvel here, too. I grew up in Canton, NY where he did. That is not why I voted for him but it's meaningful to me. He has been successful at the college level and has experience as an NHL assistant. He's an outsider with a fresh perspective and not one of the many NHL retread journeyman coaches that keep getting rehired but seldom create a difference where they go.

He was the Assitant GM of the Lowell Lockmonsters when they started --- he served under Lynn native Tom Rowe.

Greg hired me to be one of the timekeepers. Intense guy --- not a bad guy, by any stretch though --- just intense.

When he hired me one of the first things he said was something like: I'm not the most friendly guy you're going to meet, but do your job the right way and I'll have your back.

I definitely respected him.
