Speculation: Who should the Bruins hire as their next Head Coach?

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

Gotta be Torts

I want someone who represents us ~ he’s like many HF posters but actually coaching not pissed off all the time

Close the thread we got a winner
I could not agree more. He’s an outsider with no Bruins ties. Also, he likes his teams to play tough. Mike Sullivan, on the other hand, likes his big players to be soft and skate away from scrums. In other words, he likes his players to play the way he always did.
I also don’t want him coaching his son-in-law. The last thing we need is a country club atmosphere. If it’s not Torts, it’s a big mistake.

Torts would be a massive blunder by this front office. His tough guy act doesn't work. Players won't buy in because his methods haven't resulted in any sort of success. In the salary cap era his teams either lose in the 1st round or miss the playoffs altogether. This will be his 4th consecutive season watching playoff games from his local golf course.

I voted Sullivan but honestly don’t know who it should be. It honestly could be none (very few) of us have even heard of

I would love to hear someone in the know’s view on what exactly went wrong with Monty. Going all the way back to his incredible season to the day he got fired.

Just what went wrong and why did he end up not being the guy anymore

It's not an inspiring list. I'd say 'maybe' to Sullivan and Gallant, but I think the game might be passing both by, and a hard 'no' to most of the rest.

I would rather they take a punt on a younger guy with good credentials who is keen to prove himself. Coaching around the world is gradually skewing younger and more towards guys who are not too long retired or simply know how to connect with the current gen players. Older ones can still get it done but I do think the landscape is changing. You do need experience though. A guy like Bergy, were he even to be interested, for all his undoubted smarts, needs time as an assistant or similar before stepping up.

We know how things ended up with Monty, we know his errors in the 2023 playoffs, but there is also a lot that went right under his leadership. I don't think his example should turn management away from other less proven candidates. There is risk in it but make an astute choice and the rewards can be great. Look at Spencer Carbery in Washington. Yes his ultimate test is yet to come, but wow has he done a good job so far. The Bruins need to find someone like that.

Sullivan sucks too. I take Torts over him quite honestly.

Monty IMO was too nice of a guy. Deep down he wasn't respected. Tried to act like one of the boys. Then he tried to get them to play a different style of defense this season. and it never gained any traction. Then he wasn't here long enough to get his new systems in place before he got canned.

If we can't fill the holes on the top 2 lines in the offseason (im doubtful we can this offseason) then a worker type like Torts would be perfect. If we can rebuild to a point we feel we are a contender, I don't know, someone from outside the organization for sure.

I picked Gallant but was thinking, how much fun would it be for us to have Torts giving the post game presser!

Word I’m getting from the BA is Sacco will get a full healthy squad

I’m good with that but if Sully breaks free it would be a great story with him coaching his son in law

David Carle is my first choice

If it's Torts then I want Brian Burke as GM, they'll be oozing truculence
There is zero chance Don Sweeney & Bam Bam would hire Tortorella, given his antics and resultant shelf life.

Bruce Boudreau has been around the track nearly as many times, with nothing to show for it. Also, he is a ridiculous character.

IMHO, other than perhaps coaching their kids, neither Chara nor Bergeron possess the DNA or interest to set up shop behind a bench. Especially an NHL bench.

Hired to be fired at that level? Nah. They have executive material written all over them.

General Manager (Z, already with one foot 🦶 in the door) & President of Hockey Operations (Patrice).

Again, it will probably be Leach, long groomed and, naturally, one of their own.

I still hate SweeNeely.

Where's that ejector thing Mike from Everett is always on about?
