Who should take the blame in Toronto for letting Marner walk and get nothing in return?

The Leafs had a great year this year so it would have been strange to trade him away.

Great year? They had 108 points. It clearly did not matter who won the division as Florida won the cup being the 3rd place team. It was a very 'meh' season. They looked like shit for most of it and got bailed out by the goaltending a ton.

Letting one of the top wingers in the league walk himself to free agency and getting nothing in return is a decision that well run franchises don’t make. I don’t buy the ‘self rental’ argument. That’s after the fact damage control. He should have moved a couple of years ago.

Marner and Nylander should have both been moved the minute they complained about Babcock trying to turn them into men. Letting these entitled cowards run the show is what's created a culture of losing in Toronto.

Facebook post vibes

Leaving out all context to portray a bullshit narrative. Nice

The Toronto media

How so? They are very soft on the players. players are treated very well in Toronto, for the most part. If they don't like critique, be better and don't make excuses. This franchise (it's not all on the specific players who are here now) has not made a conference final in 23 years. The media should in fact be way more harsh on this franchise as a whole, quite frankly.

Reactions: Kaners PPGs
If I was a GM, the only way I'd give out NTCs is if the player signed a two-way deal. Don't want to go to Carolina? Enjoy ripping up the AHL Mitch. Your dad can sit in general seating with the rest of the peasants.

Marner refusing to veto his NTC to go to Carolina and then signing with the Canes in the off-season would be super on-brand for him.

Also I don't pin this on Treliving. He absolutely sucks and should get his name on the Cup this off-season for the Panthers, but this one's not on him, it's on Dubas, Marner, and Shannahan. Oh Bhreandain, laddy...
If you don't offer trade protection, you won't be able to sign any premier UFA, and highly unlikely to get any UFA years from your own elite players.

Why would they have traded him when they were in a contending year? Are you people stupid? Look what happened with Rantanen.

Do in your opinion Stolarz and Woll are top end nhl goalies?

First year he's hit 100 points, so he's a 90 point player, which is still amazing.

No one is to blame.

Leafs went for it, hoping for a different outcome and nothing happened.

Still time they can make a trade with a team for that 8th year, but doesn't sound like he wants that right now.

If there is an issue, its with Shanahan who fired Dubas, which sounded like he was going to make actual changes to the core, likely Marner.

Marner is PPG in playoffs last four seasons. The narrative that he is suddenly useless is overblown.
PPG isn't good enough for a player paid like him with his talent level.

His season stats are: 30g/70a player
His playoff stats are: 15g/55a player
His game 6/7 stats: 5g/25a player (1g/5a in 15 games)

He's supposed to be McDavid Lite, but in the playoffs he turns into Clarke MacArthur Plus and in games 6/7 Craig MacTavish

What has he done to suggest that he's not qualified?
Look at the mess in Toronto. Kept going all-in on a buttery soft core with no D or goaltending. No relevant hockey experience where he wasn't gifted a job through nepotism. He clearly has no understanding of the sport and it shows through his gross incompetence in two cities.
