Daigle, honestly was not that bad. He got pushed into the league and scored 51 PTS only behind Yashin. Daigle - Yashin - Slyvain Turgeon.. How much did you expect him to score?
His second year, again with Yashin (44 PTS).. went very well 37 PTS in 47 GP. He played a good game, again being lined with Turgeon, who was 3rd on the team in scoring with a MEASLY 19 PTs.
By his third year, he'd lost all confidence in himself and his team. With all the hype around him and the Sens not making the playoffs, he was shot. But seriously.. who could of taken that team to the playoffs? Lemieux or Gretzky would be hard-pressed.
With the pressure off, he playd another pretty good season scoring 51 PTS all season. Not great, but good.
After the long break, his 2003-2004 season was fantastic. Scoring at a career high rate, he scored 51 PTS agian, on a defensive team playing 2nd and 3rd line duties.
He followed this up with what I thought, was another pretty good season scoring 28 PTS in 46 GP on the 3rd line, agian on the Wild, a defensive minded team. I have no idea why the Wild let him go, he was doing well.
Anyway, I'm not trying to defend him by saying he was a great #1 overall pick.. but he isn't as bad as people make him out to be. He's a better #1 than Berard or Stefan.. Disappointing? Yeah.. Bad? Not even close.
He played awesome on Davos this year, scoring 61 PTS in 44 GP.. and really made Vlacav Varada look like a bum.
