This. So sick of this topic.
There aren't enough facepalms for this post.![]()
This isn't necessarily about this this thread, but I hate the concept that your captain has to be your best player, or a close 2nd in some cases. Tavares, Sedin, Crosby (going into his 20 year old season), Stamkos, Ovechkin, Giroux and Benn are the guys who come to mind.
I'll acknowledge that, but when your Captain is going to be making about 6 million a year, he damn well better be one of the best players.
That's not the point, guys seem to be given the Captaincy simply because they're the best player. When did being the leading scorer become a criteria for a captain?
DD is to immature on the ice at times and i don't care for his post whistle antics. you don't want that as a C when they are tasked with dealing with the refs, it's a bad combo.
DD is fantastic, but right now he is not C material. the same way he isn't a PP QB. just because the guy is an absolute terrific talent doesn't mean he is the "right" guy for captaincy.
you don't have to wear a letter on your jersey to be a leader
It may settle him down, grow him up a bit. Some may call it antics and some may call is passion and some may call it dumb astedness..... haha
I thought that was a quality our brass saw in him and liked at the draft, was captain material. I think there are a lot of variables in picking a Captain. And one of them is can this person rise to the occasion, and Doughty can. I think a lot of players are just trying to do all they can do to keep there spots and wont do well with the added pressure or responsibility. Then there are those few players that can become bigger better and thrive with the added responsibility. Same can be said at work and other areas of life.
Obviously this year is the outlier and in my humble opinion a freaking knee injury is a pretty good reason. That's why I say I want to see him rebound before we throw dirt on the casket.
We should hold a tournament by which the winner will earn the title of Captain of the Los Angeles Kings!
This. So sick of this topic.
Agreed. Useless thread, useless post. Just like that "start Martin Jones" thread. Never gonna happen, nothing is going to change.
I understand this is an open forum and anyone can post anything, but I really don't understand why people speculate on things that have no chance in hell of happening.
I think I might join in, say start a thread "How About The Sun Sets In The East? Thoughts?"
I think it should be someone intelligent that has a high hockey IQ and speaks well to the media about certain situations. A captain must also have the pulse of the team and KNOW when things are about to go wrong, not when it's too late. I'd trust Sutter or the team in voting for a new Captain.
Under derp Brown, this team has constantly gone through spells and losing streaks. Dean Lombardi spoke about Brown's dismal leadership in the first Sharks playoff matchup, specifically called him out on it.
I haven't seen ANY leadership from Brown in this series. When you have your own Goalie that has gotten SHELLED in this series rallying the troops, you know your own leadership sucks.
As for trading Brown, he is a third line player and anyone pointing to stats should credit Kopitar for a majority of those. Bob Mackenzie reported the last time Brown was on the Trade block that 8 teams were interested in getting Brown. I am sure more are interested in Brown's services.
Trading Brown could get LA more assets or pieces to the puzzle for a Cup run. It's pretty telling how well he played when he heard he was going to be traded...now that his job is "secure", he plays poor and his leadership is pathetic.
Calling it like it is, some fans are understandably sentimental to Brown for the Cup run, but that run is clearly over. Brown needs to go.
-So you were in the locker room and know what was said by him or the other leaders.? Because you know about as much as whats been said as my dog does.
-And Dean Lombardi called them all back and told them to F-off. This whole rumor got started by scouts speculating during a Kings game and some clown passed it off as "Brown is availible" to McKenzie. Lieweke promptly went up to Brown in the locker room and flatout said you're going nowhere. END of Story.
It's obvious you see Brown as the sole reason for every losing steak, bad performance or playoff loss and your looking for a scapegoat.
Dean specifically called out the captains, this was after the first Sharks series awhile back. This is all in quotes by Rich Hammond in his interview with DL. I've quoted it several times already in other threads.
Then the following trade deadline, Brown was put on the trading block.
That and I don't care what Lieweekly said to Brown, Lieweekly isn't around anymore.
At no point were the Kings actively looking to trade Brown. John Hoven has discussed this before.
