Who replaces Lane Lambert

So with Lane Lambert gone there is a hole on the coaching staff, and not just a hole, but a pretty big one.

Lane Lambert was the associate coach, he was the #2 guy.

You got to think that spot gets filled

But by who?

I would like it to be another guy with head coaching experience, if he's won a championship that is preferred but not required.

Although my personal top choice has won a championship and that is Marc Crawford
 
Hopefully someone with fresh ideas, innovative and can adapt both in game and after the games to give us the best chance to win
 
They’ll bring in a guy with a winning resume, the media will love him and they'll tell stories and create a positive narrative about how he’ll change the DNA of the defence.

What exactly is an associate coach anyway?

I never even heard of one before they hired Lambert. Figured the NHL's most bloated front office just invented the position. Something between head coach and assistant coach with no defined duties.

So far as I know Lambert ran the pk.

If that's all he did it shouldn't be that hard to replace him. The Leafs were 17th in the league with a pk success rate of 77.87%. A mediocre pk with two Selke candidates on it is hardly an accomplishment worth thumping the chest over.

I could probably coach them to the same results.

Half the time it didn't even look like the players knew what they were doing. They were just confusing themselves more than anything. Just seemed like random winging it out there.

How are they ever gonna find a coach who can replicate a system like that?

They did not invent the position, Marc Crawford held it in Ottawa

During the reg season the team played an extremely passive wedge or 1-1-2. The thought being you have your bigs anchored near the net to block shots and get on sticks/bodies to reduce rebound chances.

Like much of what the Leafs did, worked wonders when the goaltenders were playing well (which was much of the time). It was in keeping with the Berube philosophy of playing passive.. low risk (scared)

I thought Lambert did adjust as playoffs went on and we were playing a more aggressive wedge and at times morphed that into an aggressive 4 which was disruptive.

So whatever anyone things of it, Lambert seemed to really bear down in the playoffs, when it counted.

The network hair was just an added bonus.. he would make a fantastic Sopranos character.

So many coaches across many different leagues. I'd hate for them to just take an old recycle coach like Bylsma or Boudreau. Woodcroft could makes sense though and doesn't have a lot of mileage. Bob Boughner was associate coach for the Red Wings this season, and with experience with other teams. Could be ok.

There are a few AHL and CHL coaches that probably could do good work to bring in innovation or at the very least better ways of improving part of the team. They could also poach someone from another team again.
 
Berube will likely have almost all the selecting power here. He can bring in anyone he wants, and that's a good thing.

When Shanny was fired they said Chief and Treliving would get a bit more authority and autonomy. This would be the first time to prove it. Let him bring in his own guy for the role.
 
Why so serious anyway? Oh it's so important who some associate coach is. IT's really gonna make or break our season next year. Put Carlon the Bear back there, I don't care. As far as fans should be concerned, the associate coach (or coaches) don't make a lick of difference.

To answer your question: maybe poach someone from the Florida Panthers bench if SC experience is soooo important.

To say the coaches don't make a difference simply isn't true.
 
Why not shoot for the top when hiring the next PK coach.
Carbery, Lambert, Jim Hiller, Scott Gordon, DJ Smith, Hakstol all went from Leafs assistants to HC roles.

Leafs are the highest profile spot to be an assistant coach with tons of opp to become a head coach.
Anyone hoping to get to a head coach role should jump at the chance to join the Leafs.

Derek Lalonde, Todd Rierden, Gerard Gallant, Dallas Eakins, Woodcroft, Laviolette.

I do think Berube would benefit from a tactically strong assistant.

My personal fav would be a Dave Hakstol reunion.

No thanks, not one bit interested in a Dave Hakstol reunion.

He's one of the worst coaches in the league.
