Kappo Kakko has just been traded to Seattle for Will Borgen + 3rd and 5th round picks in 2025. I don't know much about Will Borgen, other than he's a 28 year old defenseman who I assume is bottom pair given he was averaging just over 15 minutes a game with the Kraken this year (6th on the team in Defensemen ATOI).

My question is who you think lost the trade -- multiple votes allowed.

To the mods: I realize there's a sticky thread in the trade forum (as there should be), please feel free to merge these threads in a day or so after people get a chance to vote. Before that, I'm very curious to see what other people think about this. Thanks in advance!

Can't believe how many people are voting for the last option.

That's the offer that landed Kakko because he's not that good and front offices around the league aren't that interested.

"Why did you invest 100K in that crypto currency? It is impossible to know at this point if it will pay off"

I'll never understand these comments in threads where we are asked to project the future.

Please accept my sincerest apologies and a 50% refund.

Also note that I only asked him how it was possible to know. Any insights you'd care to lend?

lol sorry if you felt attacked, I think I am the one who own you real apologies here. I am sorry

My point still stands, every single time there is a thread asking people to project in the future, there's always someone who says "how is it possible to know?" like if insight didn't exist lol

A horrible 40pt player that is 23 years old is usually worth more than a 3rd and a 6th

Kirby Dach is horrible yet he still fetched a 1st and 3rd

(in reference to the Kings) Lias Anderson is horrible, yet fetched a 2nd (Cuylle) and that was AFTER confirmation that he was officially horrible

So for you to start believing apply the following:

1) Start writing down a list of NHL players that get drafted in the 3rd and 6th rounds y2y
2) then group all the ones that manage to score 40pts and on his way to another 40pts season
3) then determine how many horrible players from that lot end up with a positive +/- despite his horrific nature
4) Reassess

If teams were willing to make better offers, they would have.

It's always bizarre to me that we sit here and debate value after the trade when we just found out what the value is!

Do you think Drury had a 1st rounder in his text inbox and just said no?

Ignoring that Montreal is run by complete morons for the Dach example, yes, teams have given more value to take a flier on probably worse players. That's a correct assessment. That being said, Kakko is extremely soft and very irresponsible with the puck. He's not going to make any fans among the coaches in this league and three different coaches have scratched him.

Seattle is banking on him completely transforming every shitty habit he has. And that's fine for them, because they didn't give up much, but evidently nobody else would have either, because he's not a player people want. It doesn't take many viewings to figure out why.

the devils

first they selected jack 'wide turn' hughes and now they missed on the opportunity to rectify their error.

Nah, you're good - I love you, man.

You're absolutely right that the whole point of being here is typically to talk about either the past or the future.

Plus I think we all finally agree that my Kraken finally won something other than a first-round playoff series.

The picks lost the trade cause now they will be Rangers' prospects...yikes!

I prefer Borgen here, solid depth D who I really wanted the Sens to trade for at one point. Don't understand the love for a depth winger, hope he breaks out but doubt it

Rangers lose this trade pretty badly. I'm pretty shocked they couldn't get a better offer.

Maybe they had better offers out East but didn't want to trade him to a rival? If a guy is so good that you're concerned about trading him to a team in your division, maybe you shouldn't trade him for Will Borgen.
They traded him out of spite
