Would have stretches where he was lights out as the backup but then crapped the bed the minute there was any pressure on him as the clear starting goaltender.

Tough call between Michael Leighton and Scott Darling.

But Spencer Martin is currently giving both of them a run for their money with his sick .846 after 9 games.

Still gotta be Darling for me. We acquired and extended him for multiple years before he ever played a game which was a big deal for us at the time. He was expected to be a starter for us. The other guys, not the case.

Just looking at guys who've had a least 40 starts for the Bruins. I'd probably say Anton Khudobin :dunno:

Kind of shows how blessed the Bruins have been with goaltending the last decade when you're worst (regular) goalie had a record of 23-12-8 & sported a 2.59 / .910 SV%

If you go back as far as Khudobin, you also hit Zane Gothberg en route.

Niemi for Pittsburgh, holy crap he was absolutely brutal for the Penguins. MAF was terrible in the 2012 playoffs but the team could outscore his poor performance in two games. They could not outscore Niemi's shortcomings ever, he was truly atrocious.

He's never played a full season unless you include last year where they Habs kept a 3 goalie program.

I'd have to go way back, and say andre "red light" racicot.

Yeah, those early 90’s backups Roy had were a brutal lot. JC Bergeron, Racicot and Freddy Chabot. Ughhhh!

Leafs have sure had a number of them. Hard to pick a "winner". Last decade we had

Bernier
Sparks
Murray
Mrazek
Campbell
Samsonov

No wonder we haven't won shit eh lol
Bernier wasn't awful. Sparks I have a hard time faulting because he was nothing more than a league minimum callup/backup. Campbell as well with how cheap he was and he actually had a good run before this shit for brains organization ruined everything he had built up in LA.

But Mrazek, Murray, and Samsonov is undoubtedly one of the worst value goaltending runs of all time. All 3 were dumped by teams who couldn't wait to be rid of em. And dipshit Dubas just couldn't wait to pay em.

Also going back a little more, honorable mention to Vesa Toskala. f*** i hated that sieve. Raycroft got shit on by this fanbase mostly because of what the idiot GM gave up to get him, but he was still a much better goalie than the clown they replaced him with

Perhaps not statistically the worst, but very few Leafs goalies have caused me as much stress as Vesa Toskala. I'll admit some of that stress came from the fact that there was a good chunk of Leafs nation that loved him at first.
I felt like Toskala let in everything and anything during his era with the Leafs. As a bruins fan, I did not understand why so many Leafs fans seem to let him off the hook. I know the team in front of him was lackluster but the guy was a sieve if there ever was one.
I missed these replies but ya'll are bang on. Half this fanbase was stupid enough to think he was better than Raycroft (who most only hated because of the Rask trade). Yet Raycroft outplayed shit ass Toskala and nobody seems interested in remembering the 1st the Leafs sent to the Sharks got them Couture.

Raycroft never matched the calder season but at least he was a serviceable NHLer. Toskala was actively one of the worst, most mentally fragile goalies I've ever seen at that level

Let's see...just how many former/current Kings goalies are on this list...

In order of the posts:
Bernier (Leafs)
Campbell (Leafs and Oilers)
Scrivens (Oilers)
Labarbara (Oilers)
Rittich
Dan Cloutier (Vancouver)
Martin Jones (San Jose)

...and nobody mentioned the King's worst recent goalie, Cal Petersen, yet.
It's especially funny because if not for Samsonov I'm sure some Caps fans might be claiming Copley or Kuemper as well.

Justin Peters gets a pass for his time on the caps, as his contributions were irrelevant. If its the last 10 years, this is easily a tie between the dumpster fire of failure and disaster that is Samsonov and Vanecek, Together they wasted 168 games of Ovechkins career with their dumb****ery. They were so awful that the caps won 93 games in spite of their presence on the ice. In 10 playoff appearances they won 2 games. GMBM should have been fired for all of us having to endure these two. I remember smiling when the dumbass devils and leafs signed these buffoons. Both teams were desperate for goaltending and believed these two were the answer. Shocker they were horrible for those 2 teams also.
I didn't get it either. Why any team desperate for a starter, would bring in either of those two who the caps had seen for several seasons, and despite having them were also just as desperate as the Leafs and Devils

Curtis McElhinney is certainly up there. If you told me that he’d become a cup-winning, dependable journeyman backup, I would never have believed you. Horrible goalie for the Flames.

Vertigo Jonas Hiller in 15/16 was a tank machine.

Jon Gillies and Eddie Lack battle it out for 3rd

Malcom Subban for the Bruins. He looked promising enough in the AHL, had two horrendous starts with Boston before the Knights scooped him up and went on to have a short, unremarkable career and seems to be settling in as a backup AHL goalie.
