Who is your favorite player in the NHL?

Malkin. At his peak, he was a force of nature on the ice. The 2009 playoff run is legendary. Then the 2011-12 season when Sid was out and he went wild was beautiful to watch. Shame he had so many injuries throughout his career.

I'll do picks from my favorite team and picks from the rest of the league.

From the Leafs....
Current - Matthews
All time - Gilmour

Rest of the league...

Current - Makar
All time - Mario

Now - Kirill,
Past - Kovalchuk, Fedorov
Federov was a uniquely gifted player. He could play all five skater positions and still be the best player. If you like Russian players then Yakushev was very special. Saw him play. Incredible. It’s too bad we didn’t get these great Russian players in the NHL sooner.

Russians seem so composed I guess you can say.
I never heard of Yakushev I'll check his youtube videos for sure!
And I agree with you on Federov. He was built differently, the hockey IQ on that man !

Had a family friend on the Sabres coaching staff when I was 15-16 (around 2010 or so, this is pre Stanley cups) who knew I was a huge Doughty and Kopitar fan and who I looked up to.

Said family friend asked if I wanted to tour the Sabres locker room, which I had multiple times before, but was still cool. Instead, while I was waiting, both Doughty and Kopitar who both knew my name came up to me, introduced themselves and talked to me for 4-5 minutes.

Family friend had spoken to them about me and asked if they’d give me the time of day. They had just lost pretty badly but you would’ve never known, they were so awesome. I was a decent hockey player at the time so they asked me about me playing hockey, etc. Fans for life from me for that - the “never meet your heroes” saying wasn’t the case for me.

Have pictures too but won’t be sharing those for obvious reasons. So yeah, Kopitar and Doughty will always be my favorite players.

0 Ovechkin I can't believe it :slaugh:

Kids these days :eyeroll:

I got you covered bud. Not many guys were ever more entertaining than him!

Ran into him once at the end of a practice at Kettler, but he apologized to the fans and said he was on his way to an appointment.

He seems relatively down to Earth for being as famous as he is, but his love of the game is the most inspiring thing about him.

Jaccob Slavin for me. Never met him in person but seems like a genuinely great guy.

I met Slavin after a game one time, when he was leaving in his car from the area where players sometimes stop to sign autographs. My kids wanted to get his autograph and he always, and I mean ALWAYS stops to sign them no matter the weather, no matter how the game went, no matter if they’re trying to make a flight.

This was back when he drove a truck, not sure if he does now. Anyway, he’s in his truck with his wife and signing my kid’s jersey, and I took a few seconds to just say I really appreciated that he always took the time to do this for the kids. So as I’m saying that, I’m reaching up to take the jersey from him, and when I step back I accidentally knock his rear view mirror backwards.

In true Slavin fashion he just sits there and doesn’t react, but I know damn well what goes through a man’s head when someone knocks their rearview mirror. Horrified, I awkwardly keep talking and apologize while fixing the mirror. He said something else that I was too blacked out with shame to remember, and went on his way.

So that’s an interaction that confirmed my belief that Slavin is not just a nice guy but an exceptionally kind and forgiving person. It still haunts me.

My fav player is Weber. And big buff

Goalies I have mount Rushmore:
1-2: brodeur & price (interchangable)
3: Quick
4. Belfour
HM: Kipper

As an objective and neutral fan i try not to have favourites, but its hard as I really love players like Tom Wilson, Brad Marchand, Ryan Hartman and Nazem Kadri

Dunno, after watching that Prime documentary I kinda feel he doesn't really enjoy hockey all that much.

OT: All time: Douglas Murray, right now: Travis Konecny (here's two names I bet nobody else will mention lol)
Wait are you serious? You do realise Murray is a swede? He got that non Swedish name from his great great grandfather who was from Scotland. You are supposed to hate anything Swedish after 1994. 😉

Makinnon to watch. Hutson is fun too. Quinn Hughes because he’s a Lidstrom in controlling play. McDavid attacking with the puck. Lots of fun players to watch and great ones to appreciate.

I'm making an exception for him. He seems like a great guy too, saw him at Thornton's jersey retirement, he was more emotive that Jumbo haha plus that story about him being an inventor of a beer keg of sorts is awesome

Matt Rempe, he's breaking stereotypes and barriers, back in the "good old day" you used to be discriminated against based on things such as "Hockey skill" or "knowing how to do anything on the ice," he has proven to all of us Hockey Challenged People (HCP) that we too can make the NHL if we put our mind to it.
