Who is this year's Brandon Hagel?

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. I know everyone thinks it is likely we will trade a first +. If we do I'd prefer a Brandon Hagel type. A young cost controlled player over a Patrick Kane type rental. So who is this year's Brandon Hagel?
And someone with bite skill and nasty

id gladly pay a first for Tanner Jeanott RFA

Pass on Jeannott. Petr Prucha syndrome, one year wonder. He looks lost out there this year.

Bratt isn't the right target either, he's going to get paid with a capital "P" this summer. The Rangers won't be able to afford him.

Conor Garland at 50% retained would be the closest thing to a Hagel-like acquisition for this roster.

What we hoped Blais would be
He was never that good. Never scored double digits

sophomore slump for Jeanott in my opinion

Brandon Duhaime, Ross Colton, Michael Rasmussen, Fabian Zetterlund, Adam Ruzicka are my guesses for guys who will turn a corner and play larger roles in the next year or two who could be good value contracts over the next few years.

In particular Zetterlund and Ruzicka. Zetterlund might be pound for pound one of the most stacked dudes in the league. 5’11 220. Fitness freak.

doubt Tampa or nj would trade with us. Adam ruzicka if Calgary falls out of it makes a lot of sense.

100% Tanner Jeanott...sophomore slump sure, but the whole Predators team is off this year. It's a small sample size but he was about .5 PPG last year with 130 PIMS playing for Nashville.. get 'im !

The biggest difference for Jeannot is his shooting percentage. His time on ice is roughly the same as last year and he's getting the same number of shots per game as last year, about 1.5 per game. But last year he was scoring on 19.4% of those shots. This year he's only scoring on 7%.

It seems like the truth should be somewhere in the middle. I don't expect him to score 24 goals again unless he starts getting significantly more shots on net, but that probably won't happen if he continues to play 12-13 minutes a game with limited PP time.

Rangers should get some skilled grit. He’d be a good playoff player in my opinion

He's a pending RFA with arbitration rights. He's going to want to get paid based on his 41 point year, rather than his current year. He'll probably end up being too expensive for us unless the cap goes up significantly.

Rangers need to get players like this at the deadline. I also hope they look at Max Domi. He'd be fun to watch

Hey, Pru was a two year wonder.

Instead of all the mentioned names like Domi, Jeannot, and Garland... you know who the Rangers should invest in, it's a wild idea, Lafreniere, Kakko, and Kravtsov. Instead of adding more scrubs for our coach to fall in love with.

Not sure if they're willing to part with him but he is a UFA. I wonder if NYR could get Kuzmenko from the Canucks. Granted he has a crazy high shooting % but could be a good rw fit that doesn't cost a ton of cap space. Other than him, players with term that might be of interest to could be Morgan Frost, Barabnov from SJ. Even though he took out Chytil and ran Shesty, I could see Dru inquiring about Lafferty from Chi. Not going to put up points but def would bring bite to the bottom 6. It's prob what Dru hoped Blais would be with more scoring. Final one is maybe Troy Terry from Anaheim. He's an RFA, had a sick year last year, great year this year. 25 so he might not fit into Anaheim's plans long term esp with all the younger forwards already on the team, plus what they have in the pipeline

Physical play, sticking up for teammates. I guess fans rather fancy hockey that wont work in the playoffs. need some skilled power forward types. Not Sammy Blais Julien Gauthier.
Every team wants skilled power forward types, but they are fairly rare unless you mean a guy who puts up 20 points.

Fancy hockey, as you call it, is far more important than toughness.

You can add toughness to a skilled lineup to help put you over the top.

You can't have a tough team that adds fancy hockey to attain success or at least that is far harder to do. The fancy guys get the big bucks because they are far more important.

Othmann is thought to be the kind of player you're looking for.
