Lucic isn't noticeably slow going in a straight line. In terms of racing down the ice in a straight line without the puck, he's fine. The issue with him is more mobility and lateral movement, stopping and starting, pivoting, etc. He just doesn't appear nimble or easily mobile in an increasingly speed-based game.

That sounds a lot like how I was trying to describe Jankowski.

Maybe in the end most bigger players aren't the greatest skaters.

I think Calgary traded Regehr in part because they could see the early stages of him losing his wheels completely. I was glad he was able to win a cup in LA.

No such thing. They can all skate.
I was going to wait 6 years to reply, but might as well do it now:

1 - someone the can't skate couldn't be the worst skater as they are not a skater
2 - even if everyone in the league was an excellent skater, someone still has to be ranked last

Give the guy a break, he tried the search function on his first day

I saw Maroon and Laine on the first page, still true

Ya, if it’s still relevant who cares? If it isn’t it’ll fall off the 1st page before long.

Still funny it got bumped for a “they’re all good!” post. I’ll be interested to see how Jason Robertson’s career progresses- Sam Reinhart isn’t the best skater, but seems to be having a RoR/Tavares sorta career. Those guys aren’t the worst, I’m just interested in how stars without elite skating do.

And yes, those dudes would dust me in a race and would look technically sound to my untrained eye- it’s only against the speedsters of the nhl that you notice their lack of 99th percentile explosive power.

I don't mind an old thread with a topic which always is relevant.

I've heard a lot of complaints about Laine, Robertson, and Rantanen.
My issue has personally been with Laine overall and his "ability" to position himself to get injured, last time with that collision in the Maple Leaf's game.
I still wonder what a highly professional skater like him had in mind when he skated like that into that situation.
