Who is the Shootout King? Is it still Datsyuk? Or one of Kane, Toews, Oshie or Barkov?

Per AI:

The player with the highest career shootout scoring percentage in the NHL, with a minimum of 10 shootout attempts, is Petteri Nummelin with an 80.00% success rate.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the top players in NHL shootout scoring percentage:

  • Petteri Nummelin: 80.00%
  • Trevor Zegras: 65.00%
  • Vyacheslav Kozlov: 58.70%
  • Artemi Panarin: 58.70%
  • Nikita Gusev: 58.33%
  • Trevor Linden: 58.33%
  • Jeff Tambellini: 57.14%
  • Jason Robertson: 56.67%

Surprised to see Robertson only at 56.67%. He feels automatic out there every time

Makes it look easy

Toews scored on one out of every two shots with a simple wrist shot along the ice, 5 hole.

Same shot, every single time.

No dekeing, no dramatic speed change ups, the guy just straight up looked into the eyes of the goalie and broke him, like a Cthulu on skates.

I wanted to say Slava Kozlov, glad to see I was almost right.

Kuznetsov AINEC. He was like 13 of 14 since he started doing the glacial approach.

IMO if he was in the league another 5 years they eventually would have made it illegal

Datsyuk as usual getting a bit over-rated here. Calling him shootout king just doesn't mesh with reality. As others have posted many others have better numbers, some with larger sample sizes. Datsyuk might have done it with flair but all that matters in the shootout is if you score or not and several others have been better at that.

MATT HENDRICKS THE PARALYZER

I got to watch and enjoy this a lot so I say it with love...

but his move really was "what if I fake a shot like I know what I'm doing and virtually all of my body parts just go in different directions until neither of us fully know what I'm doing and then I try to score from the slot"

and hey, it worked, his fake shot is relatively unique in how far back he gets it, but I'd say a lot of goalies would have fared better just by calling his bluff and making him take the original shot by barely playing it and it's a hilarious miracle that he kept doing it

Silfverberg used to be lethal in his early days of the NHL.

Outside of the NHL both Linus Omark and definitely Linus Klasen were noticeable in shootouts. Klasen had such a vast repertoire of moves.

Datsyuk is never a bad answer for anything but Toews may be the best answer.

About as clutch as you can get. AnalticyzBBzbVcCC people will get mad but there's a reason why he's been a main part of so many championship teams; there's no Golden Goal in 2010 if Toews and his line doesn't carry Canada to it.

Kane has most all time at 53 goals but a 40.1% conversion rate.
Toews has 52 but a 47.2% conversion rate.
Oshie has 49 goals and 47.1% rate

What an absolute privilege it has been to watch Toews and Kane come out each shootout all those years, and be almost guaranteed a goal. Always loved when it came to the S/O.

He was bad at it early in his career. He's almost automatic now. Don't think a goalie made a save on him for quite a while. Either he scores or goes post/miss .

For the Capitals the top 3 are Oshie, Kuznetsov and Hendricks who have all been mentioned already. In terms of 1 on 1 in-game on a breakaway I'll still take Peter Bondra. Dude led the league in SHG over a 10 year span and mostly all of them were breakaways using speed and deception to overwhelm the goalie.
