With Murray as the supposed #1 they'll need another 1 if not even 2 goalies. Who's it going to be?

I didn't include Gibson who clearly doesn't want to be in Toronto, and Holtby who is injured and possibly retiring.

Blackwood. All in on Blackwood, cheap, young, MASSIVE upside if he puts it all together, it just makes sense.

This kid could turn into the #1 by the end of the season if our goalie coach can work some voodoo, plus he needs a change of scenery, he's got the tools just needs the toolbox.

I want Blackwood but NJ would be stupid to trade him. They'd have to sign one of the UFAs before thats even a possibility tho.

Realistically I'm hoping for Allen or Reimer. I wanted Varlamov but his cap hit is probably too high. Samsonov probably asks for too much as well unless Holl or Kerfoot are moved.

I feel like ultimately Dubas does more dumpster diving and gets Korpisalo or Brossoit, who's teams both have 2 other goalies

Can you add Woll to the list or is he a real lost cause that this point?
Added, but I can't imagine he starts the year as the backup.

I could maybe see a Binnington-like rise from him when Murray inevitably sucks/gets hurt and the "backup" doesn't do any better, but thats probably an absolute best case scenario for Woll.

I'd like Stolarz because most of that list will be too much money. I'm really hoping Woll eventually takes over as the 2G.

Yeah, Storlarz is someone I'd kick tires on. Hasn't played much hockey, but his numbers look decent behind some pretty bad teams. Negligible cap hit would help offset what we're paying Murray.

I like Samsonov’s pedigree and availability as a UFA. But I would suspect we’ll be going pretty deep into the goalie depth chart anyway.

Since the poll asks who is the backup goalie next year, and not who would you like to see as the backup goalie next year, I went will Kallgren.

I'd prefer Backwood or Samsonov or Talbot or Halak but I don't trust the GM to not overpay so I'm hoping he uses fiscal restraint for once :help: and goes with an internal option, whoever gets hot during training camp.

That way when MM is inevitably hurt/sucks we can LTIR him and have the most available cap space to make an in-season trade for a better option that hopefully becomes available all of a sudden

Hoping for Comrie or Samsonov. Maybe Greiss or Halak if we want to go the experienced route with a guy who can comfortably play ~40 games with average goaltending.

It better not be Kallgren, the guy was horrible last year. And Woll, like Murray hasn't exactly shown a great ability to stay healthy. They need to spend 2.5-3.5m for another goalie whether they like it or not. I'd go with Blackwood

Hopefully someone that’s capable of starting 40+ games, as I have a hard time seeing Murray staying healthy enough and starting more than 35-40 games this year. We’re in a tough spot right now and this is on Dubas for allowing it to become this. He gets no plus points for the situation we’re in. Cup contending team with arguably the best player in the world hitting the UFA market in 24 months and we’re going with Murray and someone unknown as of today. Risky business

Blackwood. All in on Blackwood, cheap, young, MASSIVE upside if he puts it all together, it just makes sense.

He’s my number 1 target as well. I’m not keen on another high risk signing in Samsonov, although I do realize he does have upside. But we need someone to be able to start 40 games potentially out of this list

Dubas will be reluctant to sign one of Hunter’s better finds back in his London days, Stolarz was a real shrewd FA goalie for the Knights and by Hunter. Unless you’re a Mitch Marner or JT, Dubas won’t be keen on it LOL

Blackwood, Samsonov or Stolarz for me because I think they have the potential to become good starters. Depending on how the season unfolds they could maybe inquire about Varlamov (as a starter) but that would depend on how NYI are doing.
