Who is the greatest Captain in Leafs history?

People tell me Dave Keon. I never saw him play so I cannot corroborate.

In my lifetime, I think Gilmour, Sundin and then Clark b/c he had more playoff success. Maybe not fair but it is true.

If Matthews can get this team to reach the expected heights he automatically jumps ahead of most guys since '67.

Matthews isn't even the captain...

The Leafs weren't very good by the time Gilmour got the captaincy. We won zero playoff rounds with him in 2.5 years and he demanded a trade out of town.

I can’t talk too much about history tbh. I caught some of Gilmore, all of Sundin, all of Phaneuf and all of Tavares this far.

Sundin the choice for me. Also the leafs have a prettt nice history of captains and Phaneuf while I loved the player (at times) , was never really captain material

Only captains I've seen play are Phaneuf , Tavares. While Phaneuf does get hated on to much as a player in his tenure on the leafs, he was a shitty captain who didnt deserve that responsibility and honor.

1. John Tavares
2. 2016-2019 Vacancy
3. Phaneuf

In my lifetime, I have to say killer. Great player and he would stand up for players. Loved wendel and sittler but it just seems like nobody gave as much of themselves in every aspect of the game as Gilmour.

Hap Day, Kennedy, Apps or Armstrong are probably the best we've had but that's way back and in my lifetime it's without a doubt Sundin with Gilmour as a sure runner-up. I was a tad too young to really remember Sittler.
