Who do you think is a bigger star in Slovenia ? Doncic is a much bigger household name now, but he’s young and Kopitar has been around for much longer and more people heard of his play in the NHL

I've been to Slovenia. It's Doncic and it isn't even remotely close. They had people PACKED into a giant outdoor square to watch a random Euro 2022 pool play basketball game, and 75% of the people had Doncic jerseys

Kind of an aside but Luka isn't even the first Slovenian NBA player in LA

Kopitar was pretty tight with Sasha Vujačić in his time here and that one was a lot closer as far as popularity

Unfortunately for Kopitar Slovenia is not a hockey hotbed and thus has never had much success at the Olympics. I think if the team had a surprise run in 2014 and made it to the semifinals his national profile would be higher.

Doncic is also one of the best players in his league right now; Kopitar while still very good, is not.

He was a biggest sports star in Slovenia before Luka so most of the people definitely know him.

I think this is a easy poll as Slavic countries have much more popularity in basketball than Hockey.

However, in Finland NHL stars are probably more popular than NBA All-star Lauri Markkanen. Maybe if he played in a succesful team it would be more even, nobody wants to watch Utah games.

I wonder how it goes in Germany between Draisaitl and that NBA player whose name I dont remember..
