Who is the best player you saw live?

In Junior: Eric Lindros without anyone being close. Looked like the NHL sent a top 3 power forward down to “learn” the rest of juniors. Incredible.

NHL: Tough to name just one: Ken Dryden conveyed the greatest aura about him. Mogilny and Kovalev had a distinct style that made them seem like they could do anything they pleased with a puck. Fedorov as well. He was the best skater I ever saw live.

Salming was incredible. So was Lafleur.

Patrice Bergeron in the Q

Hossa Alfredsson Koivu Markov at the bell center(the night Koivu came back from his cancer)

Saw Bure live when he first got here. Insanely electric at speed with the puck. Heard Ray Ferraro comment on his first experience playing against Bure. Ray was sitting in the bench and Bure flew by. Ray said to the guy next to him: “what the f*ck was that?”

Live.. Peter Stasny and Patrice Bergeron
Added Price in MTL.

Remembered seeing Jagr in Montreal when he was with the Pens. Did not see him OF THE game, but he ended up with 2 goals!

The best player I've ever seen live is Sidney Crosby.

The best performance I've ever watched live was Jonathan Toews against the Vancouver Canucks, May 7th 2010.

For my own team, getting to see Scott Niedermayer, Pronger, and Teemu play together night in and night out was real special. Especially Niedermayer.

Over the years the guy who was the best and I loved watching the most and never failed to show up against Anaheim was Pavel Datsyuk. I cracked a smile when he was inducted into the HOF.

I watched the aging corpses of Lemieux and Gretzky live on a few occasions...and they were still unreal. More recently? Sid, Geno, OV, McDavid.

Wild card/fun one: I watched Marian Gaborik absolutely obliterate the Canucks in a Playoff series in 02-03. Guy had 11 points in the first 6 games of the series. Canucks had no answer for him. I was convinced for a brief moment that he was the best player in the world

Wayne Gretzky at the Montreal Forum late 80s. Had to be 88 or 89. He was a King. Have a picture somewhere. Also saw Roy in same place. He was my favorite as a kid.

I’ve seen a lot live, perks of being an old wanker.

Gretzky, Lemieux, Sakic, Lafontaine, Bossy, D. Potvin, etc.

Jagr, Mario and Bure were incredible to watch live.

Mario in a preseason game against the Rangers in like 1996. Came down on a 2-1 and everyone knew he was going to score and he did.

Gretzky potted a goal and 2 apples in his final season. Puck just gravitated to him constantly.

Saw McDavid score a hatty vs the Blackhawks and it didn’t even look like he was trying

Crosby a couple times but he always sucked against us. Toews was the far better player when I saw them head to head both times.

Ovi who is on the same level as Crosby all time in my book.

Live Connor McDavid,

Jacques Lemaire is the best player I had the chance to get some shot from.

I only got to see Gretzky play in person at the tail end of his career, and I think the answer is still Gretzky.

I honestly don't think he played the same game as everyone else.

Gretzky in 86 or 87 Can't remember.
But the Oilers hit double digits on the scoreboard.

McDavid is a different kind of freak. A physical freak. Only other times I recall watching a freak like that was Michael Jordan and Tony Hawk (I worked for Hawk on his games). Pretty wild how these guys seem to disobey physics or how human physionomy is supposed to work.
