Borrowing this from @Kupo

The idea that Price was behind a Much, Much worse team is complete horse shit.

The Rangers scored 7 more goals than the Habs over these 10 season's. (2,137 vs 2,144). Posters suggesting Price did more with less are completely clueless and don't know what the hell they're talking about.

Both offense's were equally pathetic. Almost identical. So No. Price was not as good as Lundqvist with Much, Much worse. That's an asinine, lazy statement.

-------------------

I dont think it's fair to say Price had a way bigger impact on his team compared to Hank. The Rangers only ever went as far as they did because of him. They weren't some powerhouse team that happened to have an elite goalie, the goalie was the team.

Yikes lol

In 2004 the Oilers missed the playoffs. In 2006 they made the Cup final with Pronger as their best player.

Then he goes to the Ducks and is their best player when they win the Cup.

He's the best player on the Flyers when they go the Cup final in 2010.

He was a Norris finalist in 2004 and 2007. Likely was best defenseman on per game basis in 2001 and 2007.
Seems like mostly lore. He was definitely a force and often the best player on his team but that he jumped from team to team is somehow used as a narrative to pump his tires. Other players get criticized for doing the same.

Two time norris finalist in this century and he is ranked ahead of 3 time and two time winners. Ranked ahead of a 6 time finalist one time winner. If we were taking his whole career into account he might be worthy of a 10 ranking. As it is he is more of a top 25-30 player than top 10.

This is revisionist history, there was never any universe during that time where anybody would look at New York and Montreal's rosters and not think New York was the much stronger team. Their defense in particular was always incredibly deep, with guys like McDonagh, Staal, Girardi, Stralman, Boyle, and Yandle playing for them.

As a Sens fan who saw the Senators face off in the playoffs against both the Canadiens and the Rangers twice during those years (and have a 1-1 record against both), there was no question New York was the much stronger team. Montreal were always very mediocre rosters, dragged by a crazy good goalie in Price.
I think the difference lies in the balance for me, sure the NYR had a better team but the difference wasn't as massive as some people like to portray it and really the legend of Price is the implied exaggeration that he was 14-15 Price all of the time when he simply wasn't.

Price is in my top 25ish but there are better players/overall careers left here.

Rewriting history? Those were facts. It wasn't some narrative or opinion, it was research done by someone suing publicly available data.

All I read is someone trying to rewrite the History to fit his erronous narrative

No. You could make a solid case that 4 goaltenders should go before him. Although obviously not MAF who shouldn't be in the top 100.
I think MAF is in the top 100 this century, too many wins to not have him there but top 25 seems a stretch sure.
