Not sure if there is a thread about this yet, sorry if i missed it.

Leafs finished 4th overall, a pretty decent season by any standards... and we had some injuries and adversity. Everyone here will agree regular season means little, and it's all about playoff results for this team. I get it.

But given we had a pretty good regular season, who is the regular season MVP?

Marner - finally cracked 100 points, PP PK, even a touch of D on occasion, huge part of our forward group.
Tavares - with 38 goals in a year Matty was hurt and still not quite right, HUGE 2nd line center stats to keep the machine rolling.
Tanev - knew a bit about this guy obviously but he's been the warrior everyone raved about, i am sold.
Goalies - Both have been good. Stolarz large and calm, has been better than expected I think, Woll coming along nicely for a young guy, VERY solid.
Willy 45 goals... pretty freaking consistent, even the new contract didn't slow him down a bit.
Berube???
Feel free to throw in another name.

For me I pick Tanev.... sooo solid back there, and his legendary shot blocking tenacity is rubbing off on everyone, and the team overall is better at that. I think Tanev has been a warrior and affected the mental toughness of our team in a big way... but I also have a soft spot for Stolarz who gives the confidence every time he steps on the ice (and honestly Woll too).

I know I'll get plenty of "who cares it's what they do in the playoffs", but curious what people think in a pretty good regular season overall.

Night in and night out I would go for Tanev and McCabe.

Stolarz and Woll combined were the biggest reason we won the division. So if they were one man.. they would be MVP.

Our forwards took turns having some terrific nights mixed with just as many no shows.

Mitch for sure. Stolarz runner up but Mitch had a tremendous year (either 1st or 2nd best of his career) and put the team on his back for several stretches of the season. Seems geared up for a huge playoff run too.

Tavares, especially considering the shit he took last summer. People were talking about him like he was utterly cooked. Imagine where we'd be without while Matty was injured like 3/4 of the season?

Stolarz
Tanev
Nylander

Nylander basically left out by everyone while being the 2nd leading goal scorer in the league is funny. No shame in picking him but I put Stolarz and Tanev above for the way they solidified us defensively.

Yeah I put Stolarz and Woll kinda together so we could easily pair them as one and say "goaltending" which has been the best in a while for this team. By the same token we could also annoint a D pair and if that's the case Mccabe and Tanev together have been fantastic too agreed... the shutdown pair this team has needed for years.

Actually surprised you went with Mitch based on points I imagine. He had a lot of weak play this year especially compared to Stolarz and Tanev.

They blocked 5 more shots this year than last year...

No clear MVP for me. Nobody who if they and their cap hit were gone, would have made them a sub100pt team. Stolarrz I guess. Mitch, Willie and Tavares have had big years but all have had better seasons for the club in the past.
Stolarz is like peak Freddy and I attach my same hopes for the playoffs to what most of us did back then. I see this as a good thing because all these skaters plus 34 have shown a higher gear. What if just a couple of them brought that proven level to the playoffs? That's how you win a cup.

Marner pretty easily.

After that, Tanev, Stolarz, Willie, McCabe, JT in roughly that order.

Pretty stunning then that this team managed to win the division considering that the guy that potted 69 last year isn't even in the conversation for team MVP.

Agreed I never included our new Captain Matty who easily deserves some leeway, even after a suspected injury plagued season where he scored "only" 33 goals. Good for most centers but less then we have come to expect by alot. Goals in 3 straight heading into playoffs is good though as he tends to go on insane runs for 10-13 games and we haven't seen that yet this year. He is hurting a bit everyone sees that, but he is due. Maybe Captain D-Aware deserves some love too.

Stolie
Willy
Mitchy
Tanev

I did it as, if you had to restart the season, who is the player you would want to drop the least for a do over (injuries included, so no Matty).

Old Man Tanev has remodeled the Leafs defense.

And I would say him but we also have a guy named Marner and a guy named Nylander.

Giving a goalie MVP is a bit of a tough stretch due to the limited games they play by nature and Tanev just plays a bit too low of minutes for MVP caliber IMO.

I think it’s between Mitch and Willy - guys like Stollie, JT and Tanev were great too, but not on the same level IMO.

I’d go with Mitch. Night in, night out he gave us top notch play at even strength, on the PP and the PK. He was elite offensively and great defensively too.
