Hutson

I believe hes going to be a 60-80P Dman in his peak/prime and top PP QB in league

may not get a Norris, but still a top OD in the game

Cooley > Slaf, but could change with Demidov coming int he long run

Dach's first goal tonight Cooley was way way way too lazy and soft.

After tonight i think its clear Lane Hutson will be head and shoulders the most impactful player and 100% the best game changer of these 3 the very least.

Huston is already having a better season than anything the other 2 have done.

Surprised it's not a landslide tbh, as it stands with what they've done so far, I don't see the argument for Cooley.

Huston is 2 points behind Cooley. He has the 10th highest PPG of all time for a 20 year old defenseman, and every name ahead of him played in the 80s except Orr.

Cooley has the 78th highest PPG for a 20 year old forward. That's still great actually, and the 17 active forwards ahead of him are all elite players

But the only active player who has done anything comparable to what Huston is doing right now is Quinn Hughes.

I think there's a legit argument for either.

I'm a big fan of Hutson, but I value an elite 2 way center over an elite OFD, which is how I project them both.

Crazy that Montreal probably should have had them both.

As of right now, the current ranking is.....

Hutson > Cooley > Slaf

Ill admit, Cooley has been the better than Slaf this year. It seems Slaf is having a down year, although I still think he is progressing relative to total points last year. I think he will hit just over 50 this year.

I am sure I will get roasted for this, by everyone including fellow Habs fans....but long term....my vote is.....

Hutson >= Slaf >= Cooley

Hutson is an elite offensive defencemen at 20. A very small part of me worries that players will figure him out...but he has the intelligence to overcome any of that. He is a bulldog on the D side of the game and that part of his game is vastly underrated. He will threaten and likely win a Norris or two in his career. As early as next year. Yeah call me crazy.

Big guys typically take longer to develop. Slaf is still learning to understand his body and play to his size and skill set. He has a skill set that can make him a dominant power forward in the NHL. He will be a beast come playoff time. Maybe I'm wrong, but Ill hold out hope that he becomes a Rantanen level talent. My description of him lately is someone who won't carry guys that are worse than him, but will make guys better than him better. If that makes any sense.

Cooley -- from what I've seen -- has insane vision and a very high motor. He is a playmaker and extremely skilled guy. His skill set is a little less unique than what I hope/think Slaf's will become and thus I have him slightly less than Slaf long term. Right now though...he is ahead of Slaf. I wouldn't have said that last year, but I've gotta be honest with my current assessment. Long term he will be a #1 centre for a long time in this league and will be able to carry a line.

We could have had Cooley, Hutson, Michkov and Demidov -- but I am not sure that particular mix of players is a Cup winning formula, even if we "missed" on a couple of those picks.

Time will tell. For me Reinbacher is our biggest question mark. But those four picks -- Slaf, Hutson, Reinbacher and Demidov are all very different style players that hopefully complement eachother in a way that leads to success.

I think Slaf will have a hard time keeping up with the other two. I think it will likely be:

Cooley ~ Hutson > Slafkovsky
80 point 2 way C ~ 70 point OFD > 65 point PWF

If all 3 guys hit their ceilings, I would say:

Cooley ~ Hutson >= Slafkovsky
95 point 2 way C ~ 85 point OFD >= 80 point PWF

Slaf could end up on the same level as the two Americans, but I think it's unlikely. He'd need to hit his upside and hope the other two don't.

That would have been pretty crazy from only 2 drafts...
