Who is Expendable?

Raymond, Clarkson, McClement, Orr, Bolland, Franson wouldn't break my heart but I could see him having a decent role as a 6th dman playing limited sheltered minutes and playing the PP. As much as Franson's gaffes bother me I think if you really limit him he can still put up good point totals on the PP. Just don't pair him with Dion their combined footspeed is that of a snail and both are shooters so if a shot is blocked neither have the ability to cover the others ass leading to SH goals.

All but Clarkson should be gone after this season unless Bolland takes a 1 year deal.
 
With the emergence of JVR, I think Lupul is a player we can switch for a better rounded one. Great offensive player but our problem right now is far from scoring goals.

Franson had an abysmal year with more minutes. I'd like to think that he could forget his bad season and get back on track though, so I'm on the fence with Franny. It will all depend on his contract demands.

just cant see kessel playing in that 7 game series against boston ,we have to look realistically ,clarkson and phaneuf would be in the middle of that sh@t storm
u can win with smaller forwards who can skate ,,,,,,just not puzzies

Yeah, Kessel can't play in a game 7.

problem is most of the guys who are expendable will be nearly worthless in the trade market. But could be addition by subtraction.

I think Lupul and Franson fall under what you're talking about, although Lupul might get you a little more. He had an all star appearance not too long ago.
 
Realistically, if Phaneuf is staying then the same rule that applied to Carlyle's assistant coaches should apply here. If you need to help Phaneuf in the leadership department, goodbye Lupul,McClement. Bring in 2 players that can wear the A and help lead the team.
So a good start for me would be (changing the culture as best you can):
Lupul gone
McClement gone
Franson gone

Is Bolland staying? Not sure but there is one A.
Is there a defenseman we can trade for or sign UFA? Someone like Daley from Dallas? I think the 2nd A should be another D man.
 
In short, everyone on the current roster is expendable except for Kessel, JVR, Bernier, Reilly, and Gardiner.
 
The only one to go for peanuts would be Clarkson. Every other player should be traded for the right price.

The only other circumstance is the UFA players that pretty much have little trade value currently unsigned.

Gunnarsson - XXXX
Rielly - XXXX
Gardiner - XXXX

Everyone else can be dealt for the right price

every single player, depending on the return ...for equal value any/all can go.
 
Like half of this team is expendable.

Keep JVR, kadri, Gardiner, Rielly , bernier and I don't care what you do with the rest, their all expendable as far as I'm concerned. Let the kids play.

I would like to see replaced with youth.
 
I'd like to see pretty much our whole bottom 6 be replaced with our cheap young prospects. Only keep Phaneuf, Rielly and Gardiner on defense. Promote 2 of our better D prospects, again with cheap contracts and then trade for a stud D (perhaps using Lupul + as trade bait). I'd give Clarkson another season before trying to get rid of him. Id also try and move up a couple spots in the draft with some sort of combo of our 1st, Reimer, Franson or some better defensive prospects since we have an abbudance and draft Dal Colle
 
Even if Kadri was traded for Crosby Hf fans would still label it "peanuts".

Why isn't Gardiner considered expedable here?

How many light (no D) offensively minded puck movers does a team need. I thought Toronto's downfall was having too many of them (even after Liles was moved).

Best possession player on the team and is young with potential. Why would he be expendable when we have Franson and Gleason still on the roster?

Best puck possession is not saying much. We are talking about the lowly leafs here. I am not saying don't move Fran and Gleason either. I just know that Gardiner is soft as butter and is defensively disinterested. Why keep him? Doesn't Rielly do it better?
