I hope this isn't prvocative in any way
Pettersson is younger and has a bigger cap hit but regardless of any other factors other than their performance on the ice, who do you think is a better player?

JT's 2 big seasons, are better than EP's 1 (which gets hugely overrated here due to those clinging to some useless baseball stats)
JT's best years have led to more team success
JT has had seasons better than Hughes, as the teams best player, EP has not
JT's best seasons have come with a wide variety of linemate quality, while EP's have only come with high scoring teammates.
JT was the teams best playoff player, against the leagues MVP, while Hughes struggled and EP was MIA.

EP is probably a top 5 talent in franchise history and he's currently in a long term slump. Still drives possession and wins his matchups without Hughes while slumping. Miller doesn't. 26 vs 32 years old.

Miller is great but not in EP's league and not really a fair poll. The minute that EP is back to his old self this poll isn't even a question, it only exists because EP's slump has gone on for so long we're all starting to wonder if he's ever going to return to form.

Both very polarizing players in their own way for pretty similar reasons (temperament, consistency and body language while slumping) despite the specifics of those reasons being quite different.

This isnt even up for debate,
Petey wins easily.

Considering the other option being JT mother f***ing Miller, that speaks volumes.
Pettersson is called the "Alien" for a good reason.

This season they are pretty even. JT has had better counting stats and EP has had better underlying stats with harder deployment. Both have been very underwhelming.

When at their 100% its EP all the way.

So annoying that we have to choose but at their peaks give me Petey moving forward assuming he doesn’t have any long term health concerns.

It’s possible that JT keeps defying the ageing curve but it’s not something I’d want to bank on.

But damnit I want both of them

At times I'd like to be rid of both of them. The phrase that sticks in my mind though is "when he's bad, JT is really bad"........when he's on though, I love everything he brings but perhaps it is time to cut bait on this emotional roller coaster.

It's Petey for me. He wants to win too, but Miller rubs ppl the wrong way and feels like a walking time bomb. I would like to hear Bieksa's take on who to keep. Not everyone has to be MacKinnon, Messier. You can win with Kucherov/Stamkos too, Hughes can be that Yzerman/Sakic lead by example leader.

Miller sucks defensively. When they're both on their games, Pettersson is the better player overall.

That stretch where Miller was out of the lineup is what we should be seeing from Pettersson on a regular basis.

Notable high scoring players (checks notes) Anthony Beauvillier, Ilya Mikheyev in a 100 point season

Hell.........one of his other line most common linemates hasn't played in the NHL in 2 years

In EP's best 2 seasons, he either played with the teams top scorer, or top scoring winger.

Jt's 2 best seasons, which are better than any of EP's, came with both good and bad performing linemates, and a low and high scoring team. He has been much more resilient. Scoring at an equally high level, regardless of the rest of the team. This board never really appreciated his 99p year, which was in a lot of ways his best. Calling him a 'bad teams star', only to praise EP for the same thing the following season.

This board has always been heavily biased towards EP. Maybe because many just wanted to hate everything Benning, and viewed EP as a scouting pick. Only here, would a player that has been outplayed by the other, 4 out the last 5 years still win a poll.

JT crushes EP on a main board, because opposing fans know who they'd rather play against.

This is the same sub, that voted EP as team MVP and next captain, when the answer was CLEARLY Hughes, and right after that, he wins a Norris, while EP goes full bambi yet again, is strong armed into a contract, and finishes the playoffs with 2 goals (one on his own net)

My guy those were his most common line mates along with kuzmenko

Those are the top 3

But nice try though

This is a near impossible question to answer because the players are so different. I think it's easier to answer if the question is which player is more impactful, specifically to winning games (with an emphasis but not exclusively on playoffs). Isn't that the only question that really matters?

In terms of raw number point production Miller is slightly better over the last 5 years averaging a 91 pt pace over 82 games vs EP with an 84 point pace over 82 games. It's noted that some of those years were development years for EP (age 20-25). And that Miller, during those same development years, averaged a 46 point pace over 82 games.

But they each bring other things that are different from one another. EP is quietly very good defensively. Miller brings an almost unparalleled passionate leadership (I see that as a good thing, others see it as a negative, and I understand why). Miller's "get on my back I'll carry you" mindset is something great players have. EP has shown this in spurts but in slightly different ways. EP relies on his superior skill and intensity to impact games (albeit inconsistently) whereas Miller is more physical.

In the context of the last 5 years I'd have to give the slight edge to Miller. If I'm predicting the next 5 years, I would actually be shocked if EP isn't more impactful by a wide margin. He has just entered his prime (those years that Miller has enjoyed as a Canuck) and he really only needs to find his consistency to be the dominant player people expect from that contract.

Uh yea, and that included our top scoring winger.. by far... so we agree?

Both lines have always had a rotating 3rd wheel. Outside of the lotto.

Your claim was he only does it good high scoring linemates

Do we need spell it out for you on who those players are?

same thing i said on the main board poll - pettersson is the better player. whether he plays better now and/or going forward is a different question.

Miller is definitely a more impactful player and better player so far. Pettersson ceiling is higher but he’s been a ghost for a year now and doesn’t show up in big games.
