My guess is the only way he doesn't get picked first is if Chicago or SJ give the Islanders something to draft Hagens(ie don't draft Schaeffer or Misa) but let he Islanders still draft first for the PR of "Homeboy gets first overall"

I am guessing even if Chicago swapped picks they probably would still take Schaefer

Should be Schaefer. He’s the modern, offensively gifted, elite skating D man, that changes a franchise’s fortunes, similar to Makar, Quinn Hughes, and Hutson. Islanders would be giving up on that kind of player if the pass him over. Then again all three of the guys I listed were passed over several times. Teams do stupid things.

So that means that every #1 forward pick must win an Art Ross or Richard? These are just unreasonable expectations. He’s not generational and nobodies saying that. I mean look at Laf and Slafkovsky and they’re nowhere near that. I don’t think he’s a Makar but if he’s a Heiskanen/Sanderson or better, I believe he’s more valuable than anything a forward in this draft could be, and pretty easily.
