Sutter gets canned
DL gets a shot to set up the rebuild before being moved upstairs
Mike Sothers becomes HC

They both should be gone.

The last 3 years it could be easily argued they are the worst coach and GM in the NHL. Lombardi's contract is up, it would be a disaster to see him get a multi-year extension.

So you go into next year with DL signed to a presumed multi-year extension and you hire a coach who runs the same system as the previously fired coach?

Who is the projected #1 pick in 2018?

Well assuming Dean doesn't trade it for another rental.

A related question would be does DL even want to go through a rebuilding process? He's got nothing to prove, he's built a multiple cup winner before. Sutter has nothing to prove either.

I don't think either get canned because of what they accomplished, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Sutter go back to the farm to get away from the game and DL focus on being president. If neither are back, I think that's the most likely scenario.

Pssst,

They can all **** off for all I care.

Hey, they kept the band together! They needed Greenie, Richie and Stollie in the lockerroom. These guys deserved to have re-enforcements come in nand help them even though they couldn't do it on their own.

The 2014-2017 Kings were as bungled a job as we have ever seen in the history of this franchise, and that truly is saying something. I never thought we'd ever see a quality team fall apart as we did after the 93 run to the finals, but this has probably been an even bigger disaster because those guys were atleast older and near the end.

I don't want another rebuilding process, man. **** that ****. We could be the next Oilers, who had to wait 11 years before being playoff bound again. I just cringe thinking about going through that futility again.

Making a series of bad decisions, like this current staff has done, has led the team to futility. They're not in a good position as long as you have ridiculous cap hits bogging this team down.

I understand our current situation. It just sucks that Lombardi is a victim of his own success. It's hard to accept the fact that he was never as good as the Sharks, Ducks, and especially the Blackhawks when it comes to sustained, consistent success.

Lombardi moves to president. Futa to GM. Sutter gone.

This is my preference.

Better than a 22 year blackhole

Exactly. People keep saying there are no guarantees with a rebuild. Well yeah, there are no guarantees in life except for one. If the Kings maintain the status quo for the next few years, they are only delaying the inevitable. The next few years with relative tweaks to the same roster make this team a "black hole" team.

The Oilers and the Flames are improving. Those two teams are going to be on top of the Pacific Division in short order and will be there for a while. Better to start the rebuild now than to be first and second round fodder.

Neither are losing their jobs. Sutter will have the excuse of injuries and rookies. DL has the excuse of a poor transaction market due to the impending expansion draft.

The system works Herby so I'm not sure what your problem is with it??? 2 cups ....
People say speed is the thing now but over a long season your ability to punish your opponents physically in the POs becomes a huge advantage.. Now I'm sure you'll say what about the last 3 seasons? Well look at what we've lost and failed to replace???

I would like to see both go, but I don't see it, and it wouldn't really make sense to fire Dean and the new GM keep Sutter. So I guess the logical choice is that Dean gets to make another hire.

I think the Quick injury is used as a justifiable excuse (I'm not saying it is a justifiable excuse, just that it will be accepted as one by ownership) to give both Sutter/Lombardi another shot next year, on a much shorter leash.

I think Sutter is gone. I was talking to a buddy on my beer league team who is a part time resident down here and in Calgary, and he said eventually Sutter grinds players down to nothing. He said from watching the Kings they are purposefully playing without that juice because they are worn down and because they want Sutter fired. Take is with a grain of salt, but he said he's seen this play out live when he was coaching Calgary.

Keep Lombardi let Sutter retire.Lombardi deserves one more chance. Bring in Stothers as head coach.

But it's not "one more chance"

Dean's contract is up and he's not going to sign a one year extension, so it's 3-4 more chances for Dean, after these last three years that is what you want?

I think the fact that it's almost the end of the season and DL is un-signed is pretty telling.

I voted for both gone but I wouldn't be surprised if this happens. It would be extremely frustrating as a fan to see nothing happen after the last three years of nonsense but I would not be shocked if AEG didn't make any changes even if they are over due

Ummm I don't think its hard to accept at all. He has 2 cups. Which is the overall goal is it not? Sustained success with no cups over winning two championships?

Dean Lombardi will not be offered a contract extension (seems like a lot of King fans don't understand he's a UFA after this season) and Sutter will retire.
