Coaches aren't setting parameters of the tournament. That is determined by the
NHL\NHLPA, get real.

Not really.

I think most people were in the "not optimistic because it's the NHL but let's wait and see" camp.

EDIT: You know what, I re-read it and there are some funny posts in there.

It's not a fantasy but a veritable tradition of many decades, comparable to the Stanley Cup play-offs.

It certainly isn't comparable to the NHL playoffs and hasn't been for quite some time, like the mid 90s when all of the worlds best players have stat=rted playing in the NHL.

You've just grown so accustomed to the NHL sabotaging international hockey for decades, that you consider that perversity normal, even necessary, and consider calls for a return to normalcy "fantasy".

The NHL grew their league and is the standard in hockey today and has been for it's entire existence.

Saying there doesn't need to be a best-on-best international hockey tournament every year is like saying that the Stanley Cup play-offs only need to happen every 2 or every 4 years, or otherwise the players wouldn't be motivated enough to play in them.

I'm not against having a best on best every year, outside of the Olympics but the NHL is not going to cede control to the IIHF for a tournament in February, that's a complete fantasy.

This is literally all it boils down to. You can call it whatever the hell you want, play it wherever the hell you want, the only thing that matters is if the players care. If they do, we get good hockey, and isn't that all any of us really want?

Lol this post aged like milk, this tournament was unbelievable. The intensity & passion was incredible! However with all the injuries occurring to key players this is once in a 4 year type thing, just from these 2 teams Morrissey, Theodore, McCavoy, Tkachuck etc are injured while others played through injury, too much of a risk for NHL clubs.

Well, I ignored the game, even when notifications started popping up about it going to overtime. I focus on the next LA Kings game.

Of course, NHL.tv paying subscribers got screwed as usual – no game streams in the app. If the stream was just a tap away as usual, I perhaps would have tapped. But first, they set up a gimmick tournament, and then they make it extra difficult to watch. **** them.

The NHL did a great job. My friends who had no interest in hockey before are now wanting to start cheering for NHL teams. They are so invested in the NHL right now and can’t wait for the playoffs. This tournament ended up being better than the NHL could ever imagine. I expect ratings to be hella high for the playoffs as well.
