Who else has very little interest in the Four Nations tournament?

The #2 (and top goal scorer) and #3 scorers in the league are excluded off the jump. It’s hard to get excited for that. I also don’t really see any outcome where it isn’t a Canada/USA final. It won’t be any different in the Olympics either. These guys don’t play and train together to win international glory anymore. It will be hard for any nation to top USA and Canada. Canada needs to produce a goalie or two.

Team Germany would look like an 11:30PM Sunday night shinny team with a forward playing d and 2 guys on the bench.

Meanwhile, anyone that has played this sport competitively will tell you that representing your country in best on best competition is far more meaningful than regular season play.
it's dubious to call this best on best and the owners and fans to pay these hefty salaries, parking prices and concessions might have a different view if a star player is injured in this thing and the team suffers

do this nonsense best on best or worst on worst outside the 82 game schedule

True. Gotta think about the team owners. Poor guys.

Canada vs Sweden game was high level hockey. These games the most high level of seen since the World Cup 2016. These tourneys are fun but people always shit on them. Yeah it sucks Russia isn’t playing but to be honest Russia has always been a disappointment in these tournaments.

You do realize the owners agreed to this right? Like it is an NHL run event lol the players weren't smuggled away from their NHL teams.

Get real. Making millions (NHLers get paid for regular season only) is exponentially more meaningful to players than playing for their country.

You'd be hard pressed to find an NHLer who will voluntarily terminate his contract to play in a best-v-best.

Maybe we should ban NHL players from a lot of things with this reasoning, its life and things happens, if we
ban NHL players to have sports cars the player in my profile pic would be alive.

If that was solely the case, no one would like to play for a playoff team

I'm pretty certain all the Finnish players care more about these games than any regular season games. Second paragraph is just weird. Why would any contracts have to be terminated and how could it ever be best-v-best if no one would do it in any case?

Kaprizov literally did it, one of the reasons he stayed in the KHL was so he could go to the Olympics. One of the biggest CBA disagreements over the past two decades have been about players wanting to play Olympics/ best on best.

The players are not losing a single dime for this, they still play the same amount of games for the same NHL pay check.

Players have been prepping for this tournament since it was announced, I know for a fact that several of the players here changed their training programs and added additional duties in preparation for making this team specifically. Representing your country in hockey is one of the highest honors in this sport, many put those Olympic golds in the same breath as cup glory. Any time you wear your country’s jersey it is a point of pride for these guys.

Initially I wasn’t too interested.

Then I got to see Canada ice Crosby, MacKinnon, Makar, Reinhart & Marner all at once. And then I saw Jack Eichel with two Tkachuks.

It doesn’t evade the valid hangups some have, but it’s better than how it’s panned.

So would Keith Magnuson. All I'm saying is don't take 2 weeks to interrupt the regular season

They're making money off it. It's still HRR and helps off set the escrow deficit.
